Steel Cut Oatmeal -- How do you sweeten it up?

How do you make oatmeal with milk? I boil water and drop the oats in -- if I boil milk, won't it scald and curdle and be gross?

I like stewed apricots and/or coconut milk.

I use quick-cooking (not instant, not steel-cut) oats and milk to make oatmeal several times a week. I put a cup of skim milk in a 4-cup Pyrex measuring cup, add a half-cup of oats, and put in the microwave for 3 minutes. I then add chopped-up dates, sliced banana, berries, or whatever, stir, and voila! ready to eat.

Buttermilk is tangy. Not sweet. Confused...
