DC Public and Public Charter Schools
Who is the provider? Cap City itself or a contract? |
Depends on family size, e.g. a family of 3 or 4, the income cutoff is $8.5 - 10K above the federal FARM income limits. |
| Excellent way to assure an affluent student body. Go Mundo Verde and Yu Ying! You should be proud. |
How is that the case-- if you are low income, you don't have to pay for lunch and pay approx. $80 a month for afterschool care. Same as any other public school. Do you mean people in the middle? For preschoolers/early education, that is a lot cheaper (full price at MV or YY) than FT daycare (corporate or home-based). |
| And AppleTree charges $400 a month for aftercare. Are they trying to assure an affluent student body? |
Oh, and it's ensure. |
| At YY, Is this just for the usual fees? What about the extracurricular programs that they offer? I understand that you have a choice to register for those? How much are they? I heard that they are conrtacting with very good providers...$$$??? |
They also have a no/minimal charge for FARMS and a sliding scale. If I remember correctly, Appletree's FARMs rate is something on the order of 70 percent. |

Two Rivers
375/month aftercare only (240 reduced price lunch, 200 free lunch) 440 before and aftercare (260 reduced price lunch, 260 free lunch) Who is the provider for Cap City, please? |

Wow, I didn't do a good job finding affordable daycare! My daycare provider charged $1300/mo for the same service you listed. At $550 per month for after/before care and lunch (sometimes less depending on the month) and camp ($1200 per month for July and August), I paid a lot less compared to daycare-- about $8K less per year. How much was your FT daycare-- are people finding FT daycare in this area for less than $1000 per month? I still don't see how $400-600 per month for before/aftercare and lunch plus summer camp ($2.5-3.5K for July and August) is less affordable than FT daycare and this is why I think the vast majority of middle-class parents take advantage of the free public preschool. |
My child went to AppleTree and I just looked up the reduced FARM rate and it was $185 for aftercare only. But this is true for most of the popular charters on this board--when I did the tours last school year I asked for info about before/aftercare costs and I saw the FARM rates which are similar to AppleTree and some of the popular schools do offer sliding scale rates in addition to the FARM rate. |

Thanks for responding. At $750 that makes sense and btw that's great you found more affordable childcare! I do agree about getting into a good school as being important. |

St Ann's charged $600 for care. You can find a fooddaycare center in this area for less than a grand. |
