What we need is a benign monarchy/dictatorship. I submit Ralph Nader and Chris Van Hollen. Between the two of them they would whip this country into shape! |
What's really puzzling is how the Democrats have screwed organized labor over the past 20 years by supporting "free trade" and the unions keep giving them money. The rank and file are left to collect unemployment checks courtesy of their Dem benefactors who also collect big checks from their Wall Street buddies. Seems like Dems need the unemployed to stay in power. Perhaps that's Obama's plan. Keep them poor and keep them dependent. I don't think it will work. |
I'd say the Dems, while supporting labor (as a party), are not tools of the unions, and sometimes support positions the unions oppose. The GOP, on the other hand (as a party) is dedicated to the destruction of unions, so the unions support the Dems even while being unhppy with some of their positions. |
To get back to the original topic, I'd say that neither one is stupid, and neither managed to ace the issues as president (at least not so far, in Obama's case). As political decisions, however, Bush took on an aw shucks country demeanor, while Obama sports the law prof attitude. Bush is not as stupid as he appears, and Obama is perhaps not as brilliant as he tries to look.
Not being politicians (or at least not speaking as politicians), we ought to be sophisticated enough to transcend the simplistic black/white and dissect the gray areas. |
Whoah, this one has really gone off the rails. |
I am surprised that our resident wacko would back a candidate known for his support of affirmative action. |
Actually, I have because of Georgia ties. I'm not saying he's going to win, but he should not be underestimated or "written off" as someone who can't make a meaningful political contribution--he's quite smart and has a wonderful speaking style--is able to listen to his opponenets and express his ideas extremely well. |
It perfectly reasonable to oppose Obama. I am not a great supporter myself. But to suggest that we are a socialist country is absurd. Our current economic problems were caused primarily by Wall Street. Obama bailed out the biggest banks with billions of dollars. Whether or not you think that was the right move, it was certainly not socialism. It was also not communism ( the banks are still privately owned, they just took a handout from the taxpayers). Corporate America controls the country, not the govt. States rights are and always be secondary to federal laws. This was decided in the Civil War. Do you think we should have let Alabama continue to exert their state laws of segregation? The US govt used force to exert the Civil Rights Act in the 1960's and overide state laws. Michelle Bachmann, the darling of the Tea Party and limited govt takes hundreds of thousands of federal money ( our taxpayer money) for her family farm and her husband's "Christian Counseling" practice. Get educated! |
Correction: President Bush and Secretary Paulson initially bailed out the financial services firms and created the TARP program as the financial crisis started under their watch in 2007-2008. |
I'm a dem. But in a way I judge Obama more than I do Bush. Because I really do believe Bush was just a dumb puppet. Obama IS intelligent and yet he is making missteps. BO has no excuse. |
Policies of LBJ and FDR? Just what we need, more ponzi schemes like social security... |
