well, people call me Irish-American (if anything), when describing ethnicity or background, and my family has been here for 200 years +. |
No. |
| When I am talking to PC white people, I say AA. When talking to friends (white or other) I say black. I am black. |
| I say black when I'm talking to friends and AA when I am inna professional or formal context. Usually talking about demographic data in the professional context. If I am talking about actual people and their race I am generally close enough personally to say black. I am white and my workplace is made up of close to equal numbers of black and white colleagues. |
| I say black at home, AA out in public. African American is too many syllables. Maybe Afram? |
Just as a side note, do you look down on Africa and Africans? I mean is African ancestry something you are ashamed of? |
|
| black. |
| 19:15 - LMAO! |
| Some hoity toity people I know use AA but also the N word. What's up with that? |
And these are AA/black people. |
| I'm black....99% of the time, I say black. If I'm in an environment where I deem it appropriate (univ where I took AA courses), I use AA. I think there's much pride in the AA tag...it does not reference African immigrants, post-slavery. AA is a term used when talking about Blacks in America whose ancestors were brought over during slavery. |
What about African immigrants who were raised in the US from childhood? I think many of them may identify as AA. |
| brought over during slavery. Don't you mean bought by the white Americans |
Wonder why the NAACP hasn't changed it name to National African American Association if saying colored is so bad? |
