Why is the last day of school only 2.5 hours?

They have to go to school to meet the state requirements for # of school days. But books are long turned in, the classrooms are clean, most teachers have turned in grades and the parties are all over. The kids are signing yearbooks and saying goodbye. My guess is 2.5 hours is the time it takes for the bus drivers to complete their HS/MS/ES route (the high schooler's came home at 9:30 am on the last day of school).
