Working at home, set at 78 - 80 during the day.

About 76 at night with ceiling fans running.

wow - we keep it at 68 with the fan on. We live in a townhouse though, with only one zone. It gets disgusting upstairs without the ac at that level. We also close some vents in the basement and first floor to force more air up.

this just happened to me yesterday... I had renters move into our house Monday and they turned the thermostat down from 73 to 65 and when it wasn't getting cold fast enough for them they turned it to 60! I came by to address something else and it was 83 degrees in there. I was so freaked out that my a/c might be broken, I looked online and when you drop the thermostat below 68-70 the motor just keeps running nonstop and doesnt have a chance to rest and it can burn out. I went outside and there was ice on the tube and down inside on the motor-there was an inch of ice all around it. We turned the a/c off and took off the cover and used a hairdryer to start defrosting it. It should probably stay off for a few hours, luckily it's working fine now. THANL GOD!

Ditto because I hate to spend my money for utilities. We run it at least part of every day to make sure we don't get a mildew problem.

Around 75-77 (or sometimes we turn it off if no one is home) during the day. 72-74 at night - I can't sleep if I'm hot.

NP here. I can not stand the humidity. Most people can. If you can not, how do you keep cool (in general, if no A/C)? Help!

Ceiling and stand alone fans help but only if there is already some type of semi cool air circulating to begin with. When it's 95 degrees outside and humidity is high, opening the windows is probably not a great idea. Humidity is the main cause of mildew and mold.

does your system reach the setting?

Hmidity is the cause of many things - none good! Mildew, mold, allergies, and many things we are still learning. Why the rise in all these "childhood diagnosis" I wonder? I would strongly advise to keep windows closed over a certain temp. in humid areas. The stagnant air is horrible, and trees just keep getting cut down left and right. It is puzzling.

78 most days. 80 when the temps climb into the upper 90s outside (I can't stand the shock walking from terrible heat into a freezing building).
We keep the downstairs vents closed to force air up and lower the shades in any room we're not using much.

This is madness, I am afraid. Rates of allergies are extremely low in most countries with high humidity. Rates of all these "childhood diagnoses" were no higher and perhaps lower before the advent of air conditioning.

No idea what the tree comment means though...
