I am trying to transition back to the workforce now that DS in in school but it's difficult. My mind is always elsewhere. I go to DS's public school class a lot (1st gr) and it doesn't look like a lot of learning is going on there- mostly socialization skills. I put a lot into reading and other skills at home. Plus having the energy to cook and clean - it's a lot! When children are in school, they must be in bed by 7 or 7:30, and ASLEEP by 8:30, to be up early enough to actually EAT breakfast, get themselves dressed w/out conflict, teeth brushed, etc.
I looked for 6 years for meaningful part-time work and found nothing. Good luck, OP.
Yes, working is WAY harder than SAH. I was a SAH and now work FT and being a SAH was like retirement. I now wake at 5AM, get to the gym by 5:30, shower at the gym and return home by 7AM. I then have to have the kids to school by 7:40 (that is when elementary starts where I live). I'm then off to the office and run out of there at 4:30 to pick up kids, get dinner started, prepare for the next day, clean the house, and flop back into bed to do it all over again the next day at 5AM.
SAH was filled with relaxing workouts at the gym, grocery shopping, parks, cleaning, cooking, and relaxing with DH at night.
I choose to work, but it is VERY VERY hectic and requires me to be organized down to the minute and takes LOTS of planning and prep on weekends, especially since working out 6 days a week is not flexible.
