Best part time jobs for mom leaving good paying job?

Anonymous
I'm leaving my well paying, full time job in a few weeks and will consult on the same project. Like one of the PP's, this isn't a setup that just anyone could get. I have institutional knowledge and familiarity with the project that nobody else off the street would have. I'd find a way to make yourself indispensable (if you aren't already) - get specialized and then leave and propose part time or consulting. I'm only going to do 10-12 hours a week but I'll get well over $100/hour so its worth it.

There was a WP article recently about a recruiting firm in Alexandria that focuses on placing moms in part-time and flex-schedule positions, you might want to check it out. Can't think of the name but if you search the wp website you can find it.

I am trying to transition back to the workforce now that DS in in school but it's difficult. My mind is always elsewhere. I go to DS's public school class a lot (1st gr) and it doesn't look like a lot of learning is going on there- mostly socialization skills. I put a lot into reading and other skills at home. Plus having the energy to cook and clean - it's a lot! When children are in school, they must be in bed by 7 or 7:30, and ASLEEP by 8:30, to be up early enough to actually EAT breakfast, get themselves dressed w/out conflict, teeth brushed, etc.

I looked for 6 years for meaningful part-time work and found nothing. Good luck, OP.

Yes, working is WAY harder than SAH. I was a SAH and now work FT and being a SAH was like retirement. I now wake at 5AM, get to the gym by 5:30, shower at the gym and return home by 7AM. I then have to have the kids to school by 7:40 (that is when elementary starts where I live). I'm then off to the office and run out of there at 4:30 to pick up kids, get dinner started, prepare for the next day, clean the house, and flop back into bed to do it all over again the next day at 5AM.

SAH was filled with relaxing workouts at the gym, grocery shopping, parks, cleaning, cooking, and relaxing with DH at night.

I choose to work, but it is VERY VERY hectic and requires me to be organized down to the minute and takes LOTS of planning and prep on weekends, especially since working out 6 days a week is not flexible.

Try looking at universities. I work part time as a project manager on academic research projects. The pay isn't bad for part time work, and my boss is open to a very flexible work schedule.

OP, I don't know why people can't just address the question asked instead of making this the predictable SAHM vs WOHM debate. So boring.
Have you thought about a part time business you can run? A good friend of mine started her own graphic design business and takes jobs that she is interested in and works around her schedule.

I was going to recommend the wash post article as well. Can't remember when exactly but google around about pt-work or women, etc. Also, substitute teachers make about $15hr in NoVa. Find one or two schools near you and get known and you can work a lot. Temp firms, find one near you and register. You can take assignments as you need them. Craigslist, Wash Post, they advertise pt positions. Indeed, com, idealist.org. Network, talk to people. A ton of companies like silpada, willow house, CABI, etc.

DO NOT get into any of those multi level marketing sales companies. Mary Kay, Lia Sophia and the like. You will NOT make any real money and it will suck way more of your time than they tell you.

op here, thank you for the washington post ad lead, I will contact them and see if that route works for my family. I may just try to find another job that pays a little less but isn't quite as stressful too.
