Same here. I really liked him.

I also had a terrible office visit with Bowles-Johnson and was praying that she wouldn't be on call when it was time for me to deliver. thank goodness she wasn't. it was Dr. Buek (sp?), whom I had never met until I went into labor. he was great! and kinda hot. unfortunately, he's not there anymore.

my regular OB is Dr. Colie, and I love, love, love her. She's in L & D on Tuesday afternoons, so I'm praying that I'll go into labor with #2 on a Tuesday afternoon!

kidding aside, when you're in labor, it's mainly the nurses who will be tending to you -- for hours. the doc seems to come in at the last minute (with occasional visits along the way) and take all the glory. all the nurses who tended to me were super great. and I was in so much pain and so tired by the time I gave birth, I don't think it would've mattered if Ronald McDonald was my doctor. I just wanted that baby out!

good luck to you!

OP here, I don't really want to go into too many details, but I liked him when I initially saw him. This time he dismissed ANY information I gave him, was very condescending and pretty much dismissed me as a paranoid mother. He pretty much stormed out of the room pretty angrily when I called him out on his reaction. It was very bizarre to say the least. Maybe he just had a bad day, but I am not interested in a repeat exchange like this one.

I'm not at Gtown, but this struck a chord for me. I'm with Kaiser, and during my pregnancy, I'd seen most of the docs that we could encounter, except for one. I hadn't been too impressed with one of them - I found him cold.

During my 24-hour labor, we had three doctors. The first one was new to me - from another practice - and he was wonderful. I was bummed when he went off shift. The second guy was the one I'd never met from my practice - and we hated him so much that I swore to hold the baby in until he went off shift. The third guy (see - all guys. i hate going to male docs) was the guy I'd met and wasn't too impressed with. I had the baby on the third guy's shift. He was actually fine - he still wasn't expecially warm, but he was nice and polite and I had no issues with his bedside manner or skills. He was so discreet that I didn't even realize he was sewing up where I'd torn until he was almost done. (didn't feel it at all.) So it might not be that bad. People can be different in different situations.

There's no excuse for storming out, and if you believe he acted unprofessionally, you should follow-up and tell him so and perhaps include his supervisor in the exchange. Anonymously calling him out on a forum is not the way to handle the situation. There's also a chance the information you presented to him was unfounded with no scientific basis. Could it be that you really just wanted him to agree with you, and your perception is that he "dismissed" you? there are two sides to every story.

I saw Dr. Maynard for all my OB visits and loved him. I was 40 during my pregnancy and had numerous concerns. I'd show up with a list of questions for every visit. I always found him to be respectful and thorough, and he never, ever left the room before asking whether or not I had more questions. It was refreshing, since when many doctors rush their patients.

OP here. I didn't call him out anymore than others called out other docs from Georgetown. People asked, so I briefly summarized MY experience. The information I presented him with was my pregnancy history, I would hardly call that unfounded and with no scientific basis, or would you call premature labor amongst other things that? I shared full details of the visit with friends who were equally shocked at the way he handled it.

There certainly are two sides of the story, but like other PPs I decided to see someone else, which works for him and me. I am grateful others shared their experience and I am confident that even if he is on call I will most likely be fine.

I saw Dr Nigrini for some GYN stuff, not OB, and I thought her bedside manner was great. My current OB (sibley not GT) has great things to say about her. Dr Nigrini is female, and she holds her practice in the hospital.

sorry to report that nigrini left georgetown a couple months ago when she had her daughter and she's not coming back. if you like nigrini, try mazloomdoost. also young and nice.

Sorry, OP, but you never mentioned the nature of the information you presented to him in your earlier posts. Judging from your hostile remarks, I would uphold that there are definitely two sides to every story.

OP, could you see a dr in privat practice who delivers at Georgetown? If not, have you considered hiring a doula to advocate for what you need and provide support?
Anonymous
The only Dr's who deliver at gtown are the ones who work there. You could look into hiring a doula, but just make sure you run your "birth plan," through with the gtown OBs so there are no surprises on the day of about what they will and will not do.

Incidentally, Maynard is my current OB and I find him to be really good at what he is doing. My experience so far has been great with him. At my last appointment he mentioned he covered L&D on Fridays (I have to have a scheduled c/s) so just keep your legs crossed that it doesn't happen on a friday Good luck and I hope you're able to have the birth experience you're hoping for!

OP here, thanks, that's good to know (that actually made me laugh)

The nice thing about being pregnant is that it takes a while, so I am sure by the time I am ready to give birth I will be able to look at this experience a little more relaxed (well as relaxed as one can be during labor) I am still inclined to think he must have had a really bad day.

As far as a doula goes, thanks for the tip! I will consider it, if I should be lucky enough to not have preeclampsia this time. But even with that I had a great experience the last time, the nurses and the resident were awesome! (only saw the doctor for pushing anyway)

Anonymous wrote:all the Drs I had good communications with have gone. I stuck around as it was the closest hospital and I had quick deliveries. But now that I am done having kids, I am moving on.

The drs I really clicked with included drs Megan Bray (left in 05), John Buek (left in 07), Gorman (leaving in 11), Dr. Elizabeth N.... (left earlier this year).

Not sure if this is standard turnover for a practice or what the issues is.

I miss Dr. Yuri. He made everything so easy. I trusted him and felt well cared for.

Pregnant again and feeling nostalgic.

I think Yuri may still take call there a couple nights a month, so you never know.....
