| OP, thank you for starting this -- it makes me feel so much better about our own house! We moved in this past December and I feel like we have not done anything that we wanted (well, we painted DD's room and the kitchen). The bathrooms need updating (anyone wanting to experience 1986 again is welcome to come over), the back patio needs to be ripped out (although, that will probably wait because we want to have a sun room built at some point), the walls need painting, wallpaper in the master bedroom needs to be ripped down...the list goes on and on! |

This thread motivated me to call a handyman about one of the things our house needs.
The other thing our house needs is someone to install some shelves. Actually, first we need someone to undo the damage that the Handyman Connection guy did trying to install the shelf, and then we need to get the shelves put up. Oh, and I need to re-do the toilet paper holder he put up. Lesson: Just leave stuff alone. It's better than having it screwed up for a price. I am a fan of old bathroom tile, as are readers of this website. http://savethepinkbathrooms.com/ |

Have someone install a ceiling fan and hang some mirrors.
That is all. |

Fix water damage in basement - has to wait until we find and fix the outside problem causing it.
Renovate ancient pink-tiled bathroom, including new tub that we can actually bathe in (previous owners cut out a chunk out of the side to make it handicap accessible). Update kitchen so we can put in a dishwasher. I actually don't care about this much but DH is going crazy after 2 years without a dishwasher. Finish remainder of basement so we can have a second bathroom. Fix leaky gutters. Paint - every room in the house is the same cream color it was when we moved in. Switch from our ancient IKEA furniture to "real" furniture. None of these are happening any time soon. We did put in new windows last year and it has made an amazing difference to be able to open them. Previously, all but 2 were painted shut, and we had makeshift screens for those 2 that let in a ton of bugs. Much better now and it's allowed us to put off turning on the air conditioner (which I should probably have added to the overhaul list). |

I just did all this stuff because we're selling the house, but for years I ignored:
* the vinyl tile kitchen floor that I laid down, but never quite finished because I was terrified of moving the fridge and causing another flood. (long story) * 3 aging bathrooms with nasty grout and old toilets * 70's sliding closet doors that stuck and looked awful and blocked the view of half the closets * a foyer that was 2 different colors because I started painting, realized I'd have to take everythign out of the hall closet to finish, then got distracted. * sliding glass door lock that broke 3 days after I bought the house - i just put the bar up every night for 11 yrs. |

We've been chipping away at minor and major projects on our 90 yr old house and we still have alot left to do:
replace deck major landscaping/yard improvement fix a roof leak deal with how water is getting in basement have 6 more windows to replace (have replaced 14 so far!) front porch needs repainted driveway needs some repairs organize basement which is just a disaster zone at this point |

Finish painting the "master" bedroom - I started two years ago but never fully finished it.
Landscape/clean up the disaster of a backyard. Put the finishing touches on our cheaply rennovated bathroom. You get what you pay for. |

This also is making me feel a lot better!
Leaving aside things that are functional but need updating, things that need repairing are: 1. Master showerhead drips water. 2. Main level toilet runs. 3. Guest upstairs shower--tub spout leaks (do not get me started on the issues with this shower, it's been one problem after another). 4. Guest upstairs toilet and master toilet both rock back and forth; need to reset with new wax ring and some shims |
It is quite possible all you need to do is take the shower head off and boil it in a pot of vinegar, we have to do this about every 6 months to get the water deposits out. DC water is hard and the mineral deposits block the shower flow over time. Voila, water flow. |
