For strictly Tex-Mex, second Guapos with Rio Grande following closely (both have multiple locations). Best pizza-Vince and Dominics in the strip mall behind Montgomery Mall in Bethesda.

Amazing Italian subs that far surpass most offerings around here-The Italian Market on Darnestown Rd, Darnestown.

Best pizza is in New Haven, CT; best lobster is in Maine; for crabs we go to the Eastern Shore; haven't found any decent Chinese or Thai around here, unless my Chinese friend is cooking; impossible to find good Mexican food. Ravi Kebab has Pakastani food, but I haven't found good Indian, unless you count Rasika and I have no idea why people lie Five Guys. I can't stomach that much grease.

Good grief. You "there's nothing good in DC, at all" people are so tiresome. She didn't ask, "What food is better in DC than anywhere else in the world?" She asked where to get the best pizza in the DC area, for example. (Italian Store. No contest.)

?? It's been Tropical for at least ten years. It's not a chain. It's owned by a Jamaican (I think) woman. Guiness ice cream is the best....

Nope, when I first moved to the neighborhood in 2002, it was called York Castle. It just changed its name to Tropical a few years ago. In any case, this is why there's more than one ice cream shop!

Best Ethiopian: Ethiopic

Best Lebanese: Bacchus

I also tire of the "nothing good in DC" arguments. But one thing that is really lacking here, a good, "red sauce" Italian-American place. The places that are on every street corner on the west side of Chicago, or Arthur

Oops - PP here.

Arthur Ave. in the Bronx.

Does anyone know of one they can recommend to me?

You might tire of the "there's noting good" argument but I've tried 90% of the restaurants metioned in this thread and only two are memorable for me. Guapos, for the spectacular food poisioning I got after eating there and The Tabard Inn--I do like their donuts and their brunch in general. Otherwise, I'd rather cook myself and save my money for food worth eating elsewhere.

PP, DC is really a bad town for random excellent Italian joints. Back in the day, Roma on CT Ave, AV Ristorante and Fio's fit the bill but all are long gone and AV was pretty far gone by the time it left this mortal coil.

Best pizza -- the big, greasy slices from Pizza Mart on 18th St in Adams Morgan if they are still there. Vace is no good anymore -- their pizzas are too salty now. Also got food poisoning from one of their 'authentic' salamis.

If you think The Tabard Inn is the pinnacle of DC dining (judging it by brunch, no less), your credibility is . . . umm . . . thin. Not to say nonexistent.

(I mean, The Tabard Inn is fine - but the only decent place to eat in the whole city? That's silly.)

Best Subs- Twinbrook Deli

Best pizza-Vince and Dominics in the strip mall behind Montgomery Mall in Bethesda.

I get the lines between Potomac and Bethesda confused. Is this the Montgomery Mall near Cabin John Park over by Democracy and Tuckerman? Love to try it because we have not found good pizza anywhere. Armands and Mamma Lucia is fine but nothing amazing.

Indian: Dheli Dhaba Arlington
Family Friendly Brunch/Breakfast: First Watch Rockville
Hamburgers and onion rings: Cheeburger/Cheeburger Rockville (hamburgers are OK not amazing but love the onion rings, if you like milkshakes they have a huge selection)
Korean: Woo Lae Oak Tysons or Pentagon (used to be better 10 years ago but have not found anything better)
Peach picking: Homestead Farms Poolesville
Ethiopian: Miss the Red Sea but like Zed's, haven't been awhile
Best Japanese..still looking any recommendations in the Rockville area other than Ziki in Rio (tasted bland)
Cakes: Hot Breads Gaithersbur/Kentlands
Greek: Cava Rockville/Potomac
