American Idol results show last night

Honestly, I think it came down to personality and stage presence...Pia has an amazing voice but was sort of boring on stage (even the judges said that). For someone to pick up the phone, it takes more than just a great voice -- it takes a connection to the person singing. Whether you are a 12 year old in Iowa, a 30 year old in NYC, or an 80 year old Idaho, you are not going to pick up the phone for JUST a great voice.

Oh, and Scotty, I can't believe I forgot him. He should go home first, even before Hailey.

You don't like country music, and that's cool, you're not alone in DC! but this kid is a major talent. Even my DH who loooooathes country music can tell this kid is special.

Agree on this. I do NOT like country music, but there are a tons music producers/execs that salivate every time he hits those beautiful low notes. I do not think he will win this competition, but I do think he has the highest star potential by a huge margin. Good for him b/c he seems like such a great guy too. In the midst of my eye rolls for his cheesiness, I'm really happy for him.

Agreed about Pia and the no personality thing. Its a shame. Tweenie girls are voting for the cute guys and that's that.

But you couldn't text votes back then.

I agree, but I feel like none of the current AI contestants make that connection to the audience, or at least to me. With Pia, at least, I enjoyed watching her because she's so beautiful and sweet, and loved listening to her phenomenal voice. For whatever reason, I didn't find her boring, and couldn't quite understand why others did. I really thought it was going to be her and James in the finals. Now we're down to two "women," girls really, both of whom I loathe. Lauren makes me cringe, as does Hailey, although I think Hailey's voice is marginally better.

And as much as I think Stefano should've been eliminated weeks ago (hello? Am I the only one who can only think of Joey Tribiani singing whenever he's up there?) I felt horrible for him last night when everyone was booing. I know they weren't booing him exactly, but obviously if it had been him who was eliminated, no one would've batted an eye. He must be feeling awful.

I am the quoted poster...A FB friend mentioned the whole texting thing a few minutes ago and I think there is a lot of merit to that argument (definitely not something I had thought of) -- she also mentioned that a girl has not won since instruments were introduced to the show. Interesting.

hmmm that is interesting. Girls love cute dudes with guitars. Evidenced by the fact that I married one.

I love country music, but I find Scotty incredibly cheesy and unlikeable. His voice and style are completely derivative of other artists. I don't think he brings anything new or special to the table. Ugh.

Oh I LOVE Scotty. He has an AMAZING voice for country music and amazing poise for a High School kid. I think he has a bright future in country music for sure.

Yes, it sucks that she went home before a lot of people that she has more talent than. However, she still made it really far and there are a lot of people with talent and big personalities. I think everyone is making too big a deal of her getting sent home at this point. I means she was 9th! That's still pretty good, and she's in the final group that does the tour.

I feel like the very best (which is subjective) never is the last one standing. If she lost in the finale or was third or fourth to go, it would have been par for the course of AI. The best and "favorite" to win usually ends up second or third anyway. Like Bo Bice, Kathrine McPhee, Clay Aikin, and especially Adam Lambert. She'll be just fine.

She'll get plenty of offers for recording contracts on her own, and she won't have to be bound by the standard AI contract that would bind her to them for life.

I agree that she's got a nice voice but those are dime a dozen in the business. I found her incredibly boring. I was ready for her to go but would rather have seen Joey errrrr Stefano or Hailey go first.

Actually, all the finalists are bound to the same contract. 19 has the option to sign them, which expires at the end of the tour. So, she's still tied to them for now. Having 19 pick her up would be a very good thing for her and would give her a better shot at a recording contract.

Sadly, I know more about the inner workings of the Idol machine than I probably should.

My 12 yo son thinks Scotty looks like a young George Bush. I see that, but think he looks more like the Mad Magazine boy.

Word is that Pia is getting signed by Interscope. They want her single out before the end of the season.
