Restaurants with Decent Kids Menus

Now, I admit, my son almost always gets a hot dog, but at least he is also getting fresh fruit (which looked good), applesauce and/or veggies. And they have healthier kids entrees (chicken breast, spaghetti)

I fully admit, my choice of restaurants when dining with my son is family friendly. As long as the adult food is edible, I'm happy. I'm sure Silver Diner isn't a true foodie haven.

I personally also prefer restaurants that have kids menus because (1) I don't want to spend $15 on a meal for my son and (2) since we rarely go out, I don't want to have to order a meal that he will like (if the goal is to order and share). Plus, my son likes having "his" food. But to each his own.

I like Silver Diner as well. They have a gluten free menu and the manager personally makes sure my child's dinner is cooked safely. They are able to accommondate his special diet and my other child's inability to like anything but chicken nuggets and french fries, and they offer a variety of food for the grown-ups.

Ever since reading a post on another website by an employee who said her restaurant puts more sugar in their children's pizza than in their regular pizza so that the kids will like the place and want to go back, I am paranoid about kids menus. We were at CPK this weekend, and I preferred to share a regular pizza with dc than to order off the children's menu.

BTW, places like Cafe Delux have mac and cheese on the regular menu, too. Just order some and share with your kid.

just FYI, the Cafe Deluxe kids mac&cheese is different now - it's orange, guessing they use velveeta or something. They still offer the gruyere mac as an adult side dish.

At Dino's in Cleveland Park, kids pay their age up to age 11 (so dinner for an 8 yo is $8). http://www.dino-dc.com/menu/#giovanni

Cafe Deluxe is my favorite chain restaurant...although, I have never ordered anything off the kids menu. What do you hate about it so much?

If you have two kids you can also just order one adult meal and ask the server for an extra plate. In most restaurants I've found that they split it into two portions for you and serve it this way. This works great in Italian , ethnic, or even nicer restaurants.
