scary pictures on ultrasound

Try that for an alien baby! I fretted that his nose seemed to take up his entire face. I know I have a big nose myself but still...didn't wish that on my kid! The ultrasound tech said not to worry, that all babies look odd b/c they're squished up against the womb. The kid still does have big cheeks, but the nose is fortunately under control.

Small chins are useful for when they tuck their heads in to come out of the birth canal .

same thing here; when it came out they immediately took it to the smithsonian and surrounded our house with unidentifiable govt forces.

I had the same reaction to my recent ultrasound. The doc said the ultrasound picks up the nose and mouth bones, which look larger than the actual nose and mouth would be. So that's probably what's happening!

I was super excited when my OB asked if I wanted a late-stage sonogram b/c I thought I'd get to see my baby's face really well. The pictures made it look like she had clown lips and a gigantic flat nose. I was freaked out the rest of the time - up until the minute I met her. She was a gorgeous baby and is one of the most beautiful 5-year olds I know. They are just so smushed up in there towards the end that their faces literally look like they are squished up against a glass pane. You know, complete with the pig snout and everything. I knew better with my second one, and avoided the late stage US to skip all the anxiety.

So true! As a FTM I was horrified with my late stage sonogram. I thought that something happened and I was going to have a horrible looking baby. They kept telling me it was completely normal - and everything was fine. At birth, everything was fine and she was perfect!

The ultrasound tech told me not to worry because the baby's face was smooshed against the uterine wall (very little room to move).
