When should a May birthday boy apply?

I just find it humorous that all these parents don't want their kid to be the youngest, so they hold them back. So we get the youngest in August in 1975 and the youngest is in March in 2013.

I understand it is a personal choice, dependent on the child, but at some point, when does it become simply silly?

Often times its not the parents as much as its the schools dictating these decisions. All the ADs we met told us where they would accept or decline him...so I would avoid pinning this entirely on the parents. That is not our situation, for example.

My impression after reading dozens of these types of posts that parents are less concerned about the kid and more concerned about getting into a "big 3" school. Would you be holding the child back if you were going to a public school? What about applying to a less "prestigious" one?

What reasons are the schools giving for holding back? Are they social or intellectual ability reasons?

Anything before June 1 is ridiculous, and the parents should feel privately ridiculous.
