Weren't schools mailing today? That means letters should come tomorrow or Monday. Maybe I'm mistaken.

They like letters to arrive on either Friday or Saturday to give families a cooling down period before the phone lines are flooded on Monday with questions and pleas.

Bethesda mom, you are going to commute to Potomac? I have been debating whether we live too far, but you live much farther! We are in shirlington.

I'm a Bethesda/Chevy Chase area mom (not the earlier one) and we applied to Potomac and know a lot of people on this side of the river who have kids there. The bus pickups are generally closer than other schools we're looking at, so it's actually more convenient on a day to day basis. I also gather that the kids really like the bus, and until 9th grade, they are really committed to getting the kids home at a reasonable hour (they cook the sports into the school day, etc, so kids get out on time). So you don't lose the time at home with your child, and there's not as much back and forth across the river as you might think.

When they expanded, they committed to the neighborhood that they wouldn't have a million cars coming and going every day, so they want everyone on a bus. I think it works okay.

Later on, when there are more sports in the evening, I can see it getting hard for parents to get over there.

I phoned the admissions office and they told me letters would be sent out "the week of the 7th."

Potomac Admissions office is just lame and pathetic. ... They cannot get things out, they don't match up files, they are rude to kids and parent. It is sad.

They might have posted location because of proxmity to post office. Potomac is in McLean too - so maybe that poster will get letter faster than someone who lives in MD or DC.... Likewise - if I live in Bethesda, I feel more confident that I would get a letter from Norwood today than from Beauvoir.

I asked where everyone lives because Potomac wants geographic diversity and I've been told that it's a disadvantage to be from McLean/GF. Of course they take a big group of kids from these areas each year but it's more competitive. A kid from MD or DC has a big advantage.

Letters started arriving today. Try getting your facts straight next time before hurling unfounded critiques.
