| Like it or not, discretion is a good thing, whether moridly obese or super model skinny. |
Yes, discretion is a lost art in our loud, "let it all hang out", lack of privacy society. |
| One has to wonder if a morbidly obese woman is truly supplying adequate nutrition to her baby...in this case formula is probably best |
This is not true - and it just goes to show you how misunderstood BFing is. Breast milk is pretty amazing, and a well fed, super healthy eater who lives in the nicest part of the metro DC area will have similar BM to a woman bordering on malnutrition in Africa. They've done studies that show that. Obviously if you are BFing to feel your best and produce well you should take care of yourself, eat healthy, etc., but really the nutrients in BM will be the same. |
This is true. It is pretty common knowledge that in areas of Africa that malnutrition is a serious problem, everyone in a family will be malnourished EXCEPT any BF children. |
Absolutely - research shows that most severe malnutrition cases are in toddlers who have just weaned (often because of a sibling's birth). Breastmilk is rather miraculous, and in evolutionary terms, probably one of the reasons mammals have been so successful on earth. |
HA HA HA WHAT A MORON!!!!!!!!

OK, let's say you're right. Who is going to decide exactly what is discreet and what is not? Based on what standards? |
Maybe the standard could be that if your entire EEE cup boob is hanging out, that's not discreet. |
As much as you might want to call this poster a moron the truth is the woman in the picture probably drinks a tall boy and smokes Marlboro Reds while feeding this child |
how do you know? i'm no skinny bitch, eat healthy, exercise a lot and HATE smoke but due to a metabolic disease my skin looks gross and I'm almost 100lbs overweight. you asshole. go look in the mirror before talking about people you don't know. why not offer to help her instead of mocking the woman? do you think it's easy or fun to live like that? |
|
The comments on the pic make me sad, especially the comments about who would want to get her pregnant. I am overweight, and have never had a problem finding a man.
There are plenty of men who like bigger women. *rant over* |
I agree. This isn't all about classism--it's about people making questionable choices. Just because someone is poor or overweight or disabled doesn't mean they can't be discreet or (as in most POWM posts) dress in a way that isn't offensive. To imply that characteristics like poverty or obesity automatically go hand in hand with inappropriate behavior (and therefore must be excused) is belittling in and of itself. I applaud the fact that this woman is breastfeeding and agree that her life is probably a difficult one but she could easily have handled this in a more discreet way that doesn't invite ridicule. |
Amen! Both sets of my grandparents grew up in extreme poverty but they still had class. Have any you screaming classism actually looked at some of the other pictures? They are offensive. A skirt that covers your ass can be had for the same price as one doesn't. |
| Uhhh....how many of you screaming classism have even set foot in a Walmart (Whole Foods doesn't count)? Jeez. Get a sense of humor. |
