About 5 weeks, I think. Just put the baby in warm clothes in an Ergo or Bjorn and put a coat over both of you. The baby is unlikely to touch anything or get breathed on much, so germs shouldn't matter unless he has health issues. |
I don't remember when exactly, but maybe about a week? In a carrier, under my coat. |
Umm, definitely old enough to not worry as much about germs; he's no longer a newborn. You can also refer to your LO in months at this point. |
Also, I took my LO on the metro when he was 3mo. Not because I was scared of germs but rather bc we just didn't have a need to metro. |
I took my preemie twins on the metro at 5 weeks - it went very smoothly. |
I took my DD on the metro in 20 degree weather to go to the LC when my DD was 2 weeks old. I put her in a fleece sling and buttoned her up in my coat so just her head was out. She wore a hat and I held a blanket over her. She was fine, and the trip went very smoothly. It was the middle of the day, so there weren't too many people on the train though. |
We went on metro at 7 weeks. Baby just stayed in his carseat on the stroller with the canopy down. (He slept the whole ride.) I'm not sure he COULD have caught anything. |
PP here: we avoided rush. |
I took my LO on the metro at about 3 weeks. Not sure why the baby would be exposed to more germs on the Metro than in the Giant or Target. |
Go for it OP. Both of my kids were getting on the metro (also at Columbia Heights) by the time they were 6 weeks old. I wouldn't worry too much about germs. You'll have him in the stroller or a carrier, so he is not going to be getting sneezed or coughed on by folks. |
It is a small enclosed area with poor air circulation. Also, individual train cars are not cleaned all that often. Overall, the metro is super convenient, but that doesn't mean that it's particularly clean. |
Did it at 2 weeks, just to get out of the house. Used a stroller with car seat adaptor. Totally not a big deal. We've been commuting by Metro every day since she was 10 weeks old (which sometimes IS a big deal, now that she's old enough to complain about boredom).
If you're truly worried about your DC's immune system, check in with your ped, just to feel reassured. |
