The General Store

I would be willing to overlook the rudeness if I thought the food was worth it but I just don't. Went there this weekend for the first time expecting great things but just thought it was OK and very overpriced. I was actually kind of hungry when I left but had already spent way too much on lunch for two to buy anything else.

Same here; I went this week and my reaction was ~meh~. Expensive, limited menu, just not that great. And the atmosphere is kind of cold and hard, not cozy or friendly at all.

It's a must-miss.

There is a whole series of these. Why is Gillian even in a customer service industry to begin with?

Here's a piece in today's Post about Gillian Clark and the videos.

I'll never spend any of my hard-earned money in any of her restaurants again.

Gillian was on the Food Network show "Chopped," last night and was eliminated after the second round. The judges were not fans of her food. She came across as somewhat sweet on the show, but the food she made (albeit with strange ingredients) looked pretty bad.

And the YouTube videos are gone.

I've read her memoir and have been to one of her talks. I acutally admire her for her struggle through tough times as a single mom with two kids and what she have accomplished. What people think is rude is just her personality, I believe. Just like I'm a shy person and some people think I'm unfriendly. She's a chef, I like her food, and that's all that matters to me. Now if the server is rude that's a different story...

Drove by yesterday and saw that the General Store is closed. It was really only a matter of time. It would be great if another restaurant opened in that location though-- one that cared a bit more about pleasing it's diners.

Apparently they didn't pay their rent for months and owed $160K, then bad-mouthed the owner (who is a reputable restaurateur himself) when he gave up and took them to court. Their reasoning was something along the lines of: he knows this business is hard, he should have given us a break.

Give ME a break. I agree PP -- I hope that something good opens there. If I had the money I'd open something myself. This neighborhood is craving a new, good place to go -- a family-friendly place that had, for example, a wood-burning oven for pizzas and a good, inexpensive wine list would make a mint.

That's just excuse-making. She is actually overtly *rude*. She says rude things and made rude videos about the people who paid her for her food and work. That is RUDE, no matter her personality.

She deserved to go out of business IMO.

So a couple of fat douchebags that can barely cook are out of a restaurant - Silver Spring doesn't need the trash.

Ta, ingrates.
