Disturbing Metro assault

Saw the guy on Fox news last night. He was minding his own business, reading a book and was repeatedly bashed, mostly on the back of his head. It's incredibly frightening.

It would also be very frightening if you saw it because you wouldn't want to get involved. Calling 911 and security at the metro stop would have been the right thing to do. I wonder if anyone did.

Did you read the articles? The onlookers (other youth) were filming it. They got in the man's face laughing at him and asking him if he "had any comment".

Pretty sure it was a planned event. This isn't the first time our local feral teens have gotten their jollies by planning and recording the beating of a random person.

Here's the write-up on WTOP. I haven't seen a write-up in the Washington Post. To someone who was beat up by a group of teenagers years ago, for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, this video was very disturbing.

Watch the video. I wouldn't step in, but I definitely would've tried to find someone at the Metro kiosk.

I'm never at that station- do cell phones not work down there.

What about that case in CA? where a girl at the prom was being gang raped outside and there were lots of onlookers who told other kids to come and check out the spectacle outside and who did nothing more than watch and record video and take pictures on their cellphones. This went on for maybe an hour before one of the kids went home and told his SIL and she called the police.

A year ago I was attacked by a group of teenage girls on the a red line train as it pulled into the Gallery Place stop at noon on a Wednesday. The girls robbed me and punched me. They broke my nose and scrached my eye. No one else on the train stepped in or tried to stop the girls. There was one man who followed the girls as they ran off the train, down the stairs and got a green line train, but he didn't pursue them any farther than watching what train they got on. It was incredibly scary and I was an innocent person mindng my own business reading my black berry when I was attacked. I tell you this story so that you keep your guard up and don't assume that the metro is safe. This happen on a train car during the middle of the day with others on the train. These teenage girls think they are invisible and know that others will not step in.

Ugh, PP 14:26, I am so sorry.

Is there any rhyme or reason to how these savages pick their victims? It doesn't appear so, which makes it all the more terrifying.

We need more patrols on Metro/platforms.

yes. the black teenage girl gangs on the metro are vicious. I don't ride the metro alone so much anymore. But, definitely more police are needed on the trains. Also, a lot of teenagers eat and drink on the train.

I saw a bunch of teenage girls acting up on a train at around 3pm on a weekday, I guess about the time they get out of school. I don't know what happened before I got on but there was a woman maybe in her 30s and she was threatening to beat the sh*t out of them. She had a cane and I thought there was going to be a fight because she got up and was all ready to throw down. There was guy with the girls and he kept egging the woman on when the other girls piped down - I think they were scared because usually no one confronts them. The guy pretty much knew the woman wouldn't touch him, although I don't know because he seemed a little effeminate. Luckily the woman got off at the next stop. The train was a bit crowded with people coming home from work early and I heard a couple of older ladies basically agreeing with the lady with the cane and saying the kids were terrible and had it coming.

Awesome. Good for the old lady with a cane. I was unaware that there was a notorious group of teen girls around like this.

I ride the metro every day and have for 10 years, but have never seen anything like this, likely because I ride at rush hour. I'm not trying to make light of the violence, but rush hour on the metro can rile up the most polite people, so I'm not surprised unruly gangs don't stand out at this time. I think people would not take their crap if there was enough of a presence of tired commuters ready to yell at someone who doesn't move to the center or move their bag.

I can see this happening if they pick the wrong victim who had been victimized before.

This is 14:26 again. I do have a slightly good ending to a rather terrible story and experience. The metro detectives were able to track down the girls and I was able to prosecute one of them. There is no video photoage on the actual trains, but there are video cameras on the platforms. The metro police and DC police are very aware of who these kids are and what school they come from. Just based on the fact that I was on the redline and it was a Wednesday at noon, they knew which school let out that early. I guess they have these "bad" kids with records shipped up to Van Ness area of NW DC to go to school and then they metro back home wherever they came from. It is such a lovely system! I just wish that Metro police provided more people during the hours when these kids are riding the trains because like I said, they know when and where they are going.

And I, for one, hope his aim is true. I hope he mocks their shrieky incomprehensible voices before he opens that whoopass can. I also hope I'm on his jury so I can nullify!
