DCPS 2010/2011 start date?

I think our kids get way too much vacation. We no longer live in an agrarian society where kids need to be in the fields working in the summer. The fact is that most parents work, get 2 - 4 weeks of vacation a year, and scramble to find childcare for those other weeks. Meanwhile, American children's academic ranking is towards the bottom of most industrialized countries.

I signed up DC for summer camp TODAY.

Thanks Michelle, you made things so, so much better in DCPS. It's just a finely oiled machines since you put your magic touches on the central office.

Seriously, how hard is it to finalize a calendar?

I'm actually annoyed that they won't finalize the schedule until March - summer camps, especially in August for the younger kids, fill up fast, as do reasonably priced beach houses, so I need to figure out this month what weeks we sign DC up for camp and when we take vacation.
Beach houses? Seriously? You may be annoyed, but don't we have something like 40% poverty rate for children in DC? Their families are worried about more than Rehoboth housing.

I may contact central to see if there is anything parents can do to help with confirmation process.
