weight issue

Maybe all those who've lost weight "effortlessly" are younger than me! I gained 40 with DD2 and turned 40 when she was 12 weeks old. I lost 20 with birth/breastfeeding, etc. But it took me 6 months of slogging through weight watchers to lose 18 lbs. You can do it - but be prepared that it may not be as easy as others have described. It was easier to lose the weight with DD1 when I was younger and less tired I think : ) It can be done, don't worry, you just have to do the work. There's no magic pill.

I agree that every body is different, and every pregnancy is different. So everyone's experience with pregnancy weight will differ.

I tend to err on the side of don 't worry too much about weight gain for my own personal reasons. My mother harped on my weight during my entire pregnancy and it added unnecessary stress to my life, so I hate to see others stress about it.

Besides, how much weight you gain may be out of your control. I am a vegetarian, ate very healthy food, stayed away from junk, exercised, etc. Despite all this, I still gained 40 pounds (went from 115 to 145 -- never thought that would happen!). I ended up with a 10 pound baby, so no matter what I did, my body was going to gain enough weight to support a bigger baby (DH is a big guy and DD is taking after him, body-size wise).

I gained 70 pounds last time-yep it's not a typo and I wasn't an overweight person to start with. This is what happened with me. I was reaaaaaaaaaaaaly sick so I was on the "beige" diet i.e. I could only stomach white bread, white rice, white potatoes--obviously not great. Somewhere around month 4 I could eat again complements of Zofran and boy did I go wild--I just couldn't stop eating taco bell, mickey d. I finally reigned myself in when I failed my glucose test but even after I took it again and passed, I still was just eating and eating and my doc told me that as long as I was avoiding the sugars etc.-my body was just asking to be fed. I had a healthy girl and lost most of the weight before I got pregnant again. This pregnancy waaaaaay different-I am not sick so I eat well and have only gained a few pounds and I am near five months. Doc says not to worry that my body will figure out what weight I need. Take away from this is to eat as healthy as you can and not obsess about the weight--it will come off.

I totally agree every body is different and for me genetics has a lot to do with it. My mom carried fairly small with all her pregnancy and so did I. I am 5'9 and put on about 20-25 lbs with my first and lost it all and then some by my 6 week post partum visit (baby was 7lbs 11oz). I did eat healthy and often (small meals), drank a ton of water, worked out when I could, but also had a bad sweet tooth. Cookies or ice cream or some other treat almost every night, but I didn't eat the entire tub of ice cream. So, all in all, it's how your body responds to pregnancy. You have nothing to worry about it you are eating healthy and exercising if you can (i personally think this saved me, i only walked but did so until i was able to sweat a bit and get rid of any retained water). Good luck with everything.

you prob won't gain half your body weight, but I am/was also pretty petite. Everyone assumed I'd be one of those women who doesn't look pregnant at all and just pops out at the end..Well, no. I'm at 30 weeks and have gained close to 30 pounds. I think it is starting to slow, but at this point there's not much I can do about it. I eat healthy and exercise all the time, within reason. I do know that the baby is a little bit big, so maybe that has something to do with it. I'm just trying not to focus on it right now.

If 100 pounds is underweight for your body type you may need to gain a lot of weight. It's healthy for you baby and that's what you need to focus on right now.
