The only way that could possibly be correct is if disasters don't exist. Yet they do. The lesson is that not all opinions are equal. Once upon a time, there were people who believed that the earth is round, and others who believed it is flat. The right response is not to disbelieve both of them. The correct response is to look at the argument of each side to determine which has the most merit, or to identify the holes in each and then fill them in until we really understand. Global cooling was a consideration raised in a handful of papers over a 2-3 year period of time. Decades of research demonstrate the clear trend of global warming. Throwing up your hands and saying "I don't know what to believe" is lazy. |

See, this is the problem with folks building a political movement around the rejection of even the idea of "expertise". You end up with fucking idiots who don't understand the difference between "climate" and "weather" making judgments about this stuff. |

How much money was spent on mitigating the effects of Y2K? There's probably not a single educated computer professional at any level who doesn't understand the massive clusterfuck that ignoring Y2K was going to bring down. I'm surprised you didn't add "CFC-sourced Ozone Depletion" to your list of liberal "hoaxes." Funny, whenever mankind manages to band together to address some global issue like this, if we're successful, fucking GOP idiots get to say, "See, I told you! Nothing to it!" I just read an article that only 6% of scientists are Republicans. Weird, I assumed it would've been lower, given that your modern GOP seems to be almost *proud* of how fucking idiotic and anti-science they are. Truly a sad development, and one we've only seen since Reagan. He was pretty much the original GOP purveyor of, "Don't worry about the eggheads, there's money to be made. And anyway, God's going to take us home soon anyway, so who cares." |
