Global Warming: Heavy snow storms hit Middle East

| More scary evidence of global warming. The right in the U.S. probably won't wake up to the threat until it's an undeniably visible national security threat (which the Pentagon is already planning for) and/or the intensity of storms and their wreckage lead to huge numbers of refugees streaming across our borders. |

My DH the scientist said the correct term is "climate change".
The right-wing nuts will ask if there is global warming, why are there snow storms? |

And then there are the earthquakes, which seem to be outside of the climate context. Maybe if we call it end-of-days changes we can get them to pay attention. Unfortunately they will probably say prayer in schools is the only worthwhile response. |

What? It was always Climate Change. If you call it Global Warming then people misinterpret that. Anyway, there's a chain reaction of events, when it warms, the icebergs melt and put the climate out of whack. |

Unlike you, the weather is complicated. Average increases in temperatures produce extreme results, including cold winters. I don't expect you to be able to understand that, though. The earth is warming, whether you want to believe it or not. |

Actually, if you want to talk about moving the goalposts, once the climate change deniers could no longer deny that the earth was warming, they started arguing about whether the cause was natural or man-made. Even if they accept that it is man-made, they frequently argue we can't do anything about it because only God can save us. |

I don't know what is more annoying - the idea that global warming results in uniformly hot weather, or the ignorant ignorant ignorant notion that the middle east is all hot. This is a view from Beirut. Notice anything in this picture? Are you not aware that Syria and Lebanon get snow? 
Here is a picture of skiing in Syria. Syria is where the snow was reported. See anything odd? Surprised that this guy is not schlepping a bomb on a camel over a pile of sand?

This is why I no longer even bother engaging in discussions with these people, except IME the end-stage argument is that climate change will be good for us.

Wow, this thread died fast. I guess the fact that the middle east is not all 100 degree heat just blew their freaking minds.
How do we expect to find support in the region when we have such complete ignorance of who these people are and where they live? |
