For anyone interested in learning about some of the history of 'aid' to Haiti, there is a really interesting and spot-on book called "Travesty in Haiti" by an anthropologist who lived and worked in Haiti named Tim Schwartz. It's self-published, I think, so not the most polished writing, but really, really spot-on. |
It's amazing that some people living in paradise can become so destitute and unable to take care of their problems. I think it is scientifically impossible to ever idemtify the main causes without getting into some kind of bigotry trouble. It's important to send an infinate and never-ending amount of aid to regions like this while acting like we can't figure out what could possibly be the problem. That would be the kind, compassionate and christian thing to do treating these victims with dignity and love. |
You are speaking out of total ignorance. There are dozens of authors who have provided good analysis of Haiti's problems, nome of whom get called bigots. You really mean that YOUR perceived causes would get you labeled a bigot. This most likely is a case of the shoe fitting. So wear it. |
Since this is a DC website and DC is overwhelmingly liberal progressive and democrat. Why are whites and blacks so extremely segregated. Way more than in the red state south. Any white who shoehorns their ass west of 16th street nw fears living in black majority neighborhoods and sure as heck won't send their children to a majority black school. Liberals vote with their feet and pose with their votes. |
There is another thread on this. But I don't see how your post refers either to Sarah Palin or Haiti. v Haiti doesn't have many white people. |
I love that last sentence! As a liberal white living in Ward 4 with many black neighbors, I don't agree with it, but it's really catchy. Incidentally, if I head over to 16th and cross to the west side, into Colonial Village, I find plenty of black families in homes I can't imagine being able to afford. |
Don't take the bait. The poster is trying to turn Haiti into a race debate. Besides, I don't see conservatives living there. Are we to assume that they are also hypocrites, according to the poster's logic? Or is their choice of homes consistent with their racism? |
For better or worse, the point is conservatives are what they are. Liberals are liars and fakes. |
Bull! He is an embarassment to the entire human race and to citizens of the USA he is making us cringe everytime he opens his mouth. |
By your logic, conservatives are racist. Are you proud of that? |

No the logic is.... under liberal definitions, almost everybody is racist. Almost everybody stereotypes races (even monorities). What makes you not a racist in my opinion; is that you treat each individual who crosses your path with individual dignity. It's ok to stereotype though, everybody does it. Without stereotypes 50% of comedians material would be eliminated and the World would be boring 'sameness". |
No, the liberal logic is not that everyone is racist. This is your individual delusion. I am a liberal and do not think that. You may be confused because everyone might call you a racist. They are just saying it to you. |
Actions speak louder than words. If you live west of 16th street, you are definately racist. |
Here is the problem. This is a thread about Haiti, and you have tried your damnedest to make it about racial segregation. You are the one making inferences about race as the source of Haiti's problem. You are the one who wants to claim that a person's location is proof of racism, even though there are many factors that go into picking a neighborhood. And WTH sense does it make calling a black person racist for living west of 16th street. Yes, you assumed my skin color as well. You are full of bad assumptions of race, and bad assumptions are the foundation of prejudice. You need to take a look in the mirror. |
