I HATE those new Highlander commercials.

I think these kinds of thoughts are what lead to stroller judging.

I've been finding that Toyota's recent commercials are all pretty bad. The one with the family of Camrys? What is that about?

They must have hired a discount ad agency to save some money from all the recalls.

Here's a link with all the ads. I hadn't seen them on TV, but I agree with the PPs that they are obnoxious. The boy just comes across as bratty, especially at that age!

You hate it because you're the lame parents. Admit it. Doesn't matter the car you drive, it's just that you're a dork, a not cool person.

Not quite on point, but regardless of the commercials, Highlanders are awesome. Roomy and fun to drive, without being full-fledged behemoths. We love ours, even though we don't like the ads.

I am a dork and I would never buy a Highlander. OTOH, my children know not to use "lame" as an insult.

Our dorkmobile is of a piece with our values, which is what we care about. But I'm sure your children have learned to prize shiny things, so we're all getting what we want.

I think that kid is bratty and effeminate. Skinny jeans? Really?

Are you the same person from the other thread who doesn't want her kids to see gay couples doing Not Normal things in front of her children?

It's amazing how I am a cool parent and I still don't drive a Highlander. Most 8 year olds don't just other's by their cars anyway.

HATE. Those commercials are obnoxious in the extreme.

They do notice though. My 7 year old told me how nice the neighbors' car is and how they have a tv in the car. (It's a minivan with the built in DVD player.) My kids often remark about other cars and show me the ones they like (which are not always the expensive ones -- usually they are interesting like convertibles, really small cars or fancy colors).

YES! I assume there's a vast market of materialistic parents who aren't bothered by ableist language, care very much what strangers think of them, and let their children push them around, but do we have to encourage them?

What is "ableist" language? I'm intrigued, not snarky.

They notice but they don't judge.

Using "lame" as an insult, as it's a descriptive medical term for a type of disability. Ditto "spaz," and of course we all know that about "retard."

ITA. All of Toyota's recent commercials have been completely stupid, including the "Meet the Family" one with the "cool" alterna-parents. Shouldn't Toyota be spending their ad money convincing me that if I buy one of their cars it will not be subject to recalls?
