Friends invited us over…..to cook our own food

Fun. One glass is plenty.

If you are having a "theme" night, make your own pizza, games, cards, poker, whatever, you are supposed to inform the guests when you extend the invitation. Not everyone wants to attend these types of parties.

Hosts were out of line.

The pizza thing is a little weird, but it's more like assembling your own tacos than it is like prepping a full meal. My kids would have found it fun.

I would have sent DH out to buy more wine.

Why are you whining about friends who invited you over and fed you, provided an activity, and gave you a glass of wine?

Gratitude goes a long way.

Now invite them back and put on a 4 course meal for them if that is how you like it to go.

We do this. But I form dough ahead of time and cook the pizzas, and everyone sauces/cheeses/tops their own. This keeps the guests engaged without having to do any heavy lifting, and is a fun thing to break the ice. Not sure how you can suggest it to them though. Oh…2+ glasses of wine is definitely necessary.

Because inviting someone for dinner and then presenting ingredients is ridiculous. I love the idea of make your own pizza, but it needs to be explained beforehand.

+1. Just tell people in the invite. That's all you have to do here to make this fine.

This reminds me of the long thread complaining about being served pasta for lunch after a last minute invite on the way home from the park.

+1
I’d love this.

Please don't ever host people at your house. I hate cheap skates like you. "one glass is enough" usually comes with a soap box of how bad alcohol is too. Gross.

Exactly. People just don't have any manners anymore.

Honestly I think that sounds fun! We do this as a family. I've also been to taco bar dinners too. A friend had a pasta bar catered at a shower once. A chef cooked your pasta in front of you and you chose toppings.

The one glass of wine is weird though.
