| Wise is actually more interesting than Charlottesville |
Sure. |

OP, why didn't you link to the article?

| Yeah, DC ended up going to Wise even though there were other good options, and people are puzzled about why he chose it given his strong academics and high GPA. Many people still aren’t familiar with the program. But I’m glad he’ll get the chance to experience a completely new environment and make new friends. It’s already less than a year until he finishes there and transfers. |
| My DD considered the YIW program but ultimately chose another school that obviously wanted her. DD applied to UVA ED, was deferred to RD, and then waitlisted and offered YIW. With the YIW program, DD was concerned that the transfer to C’ville would put her behind other students socially and academically and that she would be playing catch-up in developing connections with peers and professors. She absolutely loves the school she chose and it was the right choice for her BUT the YIW program seems like a great option for VA students who really want a UVA diploma. |
| What are the stats for the YIW kids? |
They're waitlist kids, so probably close to the admitted group, but maybe a little shy of some of their stats? How should we know? |
There are many many perfectly qualified kids that are waitlisted at UVA. There are only about 3900 spots in the freshman class. These kids are perfectly qualified. |
| Same stats as the admitted students. You will find kids from the top VA Public and Private High Schools attending YiW. |
The YIW year would definitely put her behind, socially. |
No, I don’t think so. YIW kids would have a strong bond within the cohort, and my kid already has a bunch of friends who go to UVA, so he won’t be missing much. |
+1 I know kids from magnet and IBDP who did YIW. |
