One activity is plenty for a 3rd grader! Please just let her play. They spend hours and hours a day of structured time in school already.
My kid is in 6th grade and does some structured activities (of her choosing), but she still NEEDS unstructured time to just play outside and use her imagination. |

My 2nd grade DS is like this. He is not interested in sports besides swim and we do one other activity. He just wants to play with his sibling and neighborhood friends or putz around at home with legos and other toys (but not screens) and sometimes reads. Honestly this was me apart from personally being more academically focused. We are lucky to have neighborhood friends that are often available to play and informal playdates with others. We also also do a lot of family outings.
If you are concerned about DD academics, why not use some of the time to focus on that instead of thinking somehow sports would address that? |
| No such thing as too much unstructured time unless your kid is glued to screens or is a trouble maker. |

Play is a really important part of development. Leave space for it in your child’s life.
It’s ok to have one or two focused interests instead of being constantly scheduled. I’ve worked with children for 30 years, and ones with unstructured, non-screen time do just fine. |
