Bye. I mean it was a stupid thing to do. If you're going to participate, at least read the post first. It was all of one sentence. |
Classic DCUM

Yep..Pretty sure they are not from this area and are transplants to boot. |
Less activities? Maybe it was quality over quantity. |
| Definitely ED. My kid has a friend who was UVA or bust but she didn't ED because she wanted to see where else she'd get in and she felt confident she'd get in EA. Nope. |
| Add long term ECs that have impact; local impact is fine. No need to cure cancer or bring peace the Middle East. Also, I believe leadership in those ECs move the needle; think assistant manager at their job, start and manage a mowing business, reffing local rec sports, coaching. All of these are doable ECs that kids can do without mommy or daddy’s connections. |

all A's in all 5 core areas and all ap when avail
foreign language through ap. leadership sports volunteering GPA over 4.45 This is for a chance. Yes there are exceptions, but over the last 2 years I have seen many with this profile not get in. |
From the last post we had about this: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1325662.page#32127603

| Be in the top of your class. Take 5 course subjects all four years with As. |
One or two Bs are ok if the rest of the app is stellar. |
You need a different and more open minded mentality. |
| My FCPS kid got in UChicago and SWAP but was rejected by UVA. All applied RD. College application is a myth. |
|
Move to a rural VA county and be at the very top of the class with max rigor at the county HS.
Seriously. Applicants are compared with other students from their HS - for many many colleges. Big fish in smaller rural pond has the best odds for acceptance at many colleges. |
Yeah, just do that, OP. I dare you. |
| Moving isn’t off the table for a lot of families. UVA is simply an obsession because nothing else compares at the in-state price point. |
