| FCPS- what exactly does it take to get in UVA? No other option is good enough. |
| OOS or IN? |
| No college should be "or bust". I have a cousin who got into an Ivy league school but was denied at Michigan (in state too). No one could figure out why. |
Happens all the time with Top Publics. |

Try the NoVa path.
The odds of getting accepted to UVA are not good. But if a degree from IVA is the only option for your family, the odds are better if your kid does 2 years of community college then transfers into UVA. |
Let me guess: you're from California and are on a DMV thread. OP SAID "FCPS." If you were from here you'd know she means in state. |
Yeah, mine was accepted into Carnegie Mellon (and Michigan) but rejected at UVA, while lower stat kids with less activities were accepted at UVA. This happens often. |
| Please don’t encourage this mindset in your child. It’s so destructive. |
| A typical FCPS will have three or four dozen kids admitted each year and 2 dozen or more attending. There's no magic formula: lots of APs spread out among all subjects, many more As than Bs although not all As required, and four years of foreign language if at all possible. That will get you a good look, and from there your chances are as good as any. It's a tough admit to be sure but not the impossibility that so many paint it out to be. |
Lighten Up Francis. Born and raised in the DMV. Were you? Are you truly from here? |
| Kid can go to Fairfax University of America. |
Well learn to read then. She was clearly and specifically asking about admissions from Fairfax County Public Schools. |

Maybe they wrote “less” where they should have written “fewer” in their essay. |
typical nasty DMV strivers - can't wait to relocate from area. |
