He did Spanish in FCPS 7th and 8th grade and that made him eligible for Spanish 2 as a freshman

Not think as sunk cost, but to expand the horizons. My kid did two years of French in middle school, and happily switched to Chinese at TJ.

My daughter is thinking about taking Japanese level 1 during summer and level 2/3 for school year. I am glad to know TJ offers Japanese now

Why go to TJ if you don’t actually want to learn something really well? Kids taking Spanish at TJ get very good at it. Isn’t that the point?

They don't but they have said if enough kids sign up for it they will offer a class. We signed up for Japanese 3 and are hoping that there is a Japanese 2/3 class.

Nobody is going to TJ to get good at spanish.

Many TJ grads who took Spanish will tell you they are very proud of their fluency. Seriously I have heard this from numerous TJ grads. Same for French. Youth is the best time to master a language.

Not Spanish, at least not at TJ. It sucks the joy out of living.
