The main “difference” this year seems to be that clubs who suck at communicating and working with parents simply had an extra opportunity to suck at it with the usual tryouts plus the age change convos that were never had.

Lot of places showed their ass this spring, won’t make a difference for the reasons mentioned above.

Might be early to tell, but are people seeing a mass-quitting of travel soccer? In the 2016-2017 transition, looking at archives, the year after the SY to BY transition over 10% of travel teams disappeared between years, and many clubs went out of business. Is the BY to SY transition leading to as much quitting? So far I haven't seen any kids/parents around us saying, "We liked BY, but this SY system is terrible and we're moving on to some other sport." There was a lot of discussion in the decision about participation, with a lot of claims in both directions about the effect of BY vs SY, and there should be some early results coming in.

We are seeing a lot of parents of older BY kids shocked by the changes and their kids moving down teams. It seems there was a missed opportunity at the club level to make sure people understand ahead of time the impacts that could happen.

1) There are clubs that are $150/month
2) There are clubs that don’t care about results
3) There are clubs that are not toxic

The system works because of parental decisions, mostly of the DCUM types. Be self-reflective of the decisions that you make and the results that incur. This system is a mirror of you the majority of the consumers are.

How many times per week do these $150/month clubs practice?

Contrary to assumptions, some kids play travel for more soccer, not bragging rights.

We play $160 a month for practice three times a week all year.

The only way that happens is if youth sports is funded by public community dollars, like public schools and libraries, and not as pay for service businesses.

I have 3. And the last one was the blue USofA. Love the US but I’m not koolaided to the point of saying it’s the “greatest” nation on earth because I’ve witnessed, experienced and lived plenty to see for what’s it worth
