Indictment of Southern Policy Law Center

The indictment doesn’t mention that SPLC provided intelligence from its informant program to law enforcement/FBI to dismantle extremist groups.

But that fact, which will surely come out in discovery, undermines the entire premise the DOJ/FBI case.

This is part of the Administration’s plan to discredit and dissolve nonprofits.

They are distorting the facts for soundbites to shock people.

Anyone with half a brain realizes their tactics were aimed at infiltrating and disrupting hate groups…which they succeeding at. They obviously don’t—and weren’t—supporting hate groups.

This is so ridiculous. When will this madness end?

If they polled donors, they would undoubtedly support the tactics to disrupt hate groups. Duh.

DOJ should be ashamed.

Congress needs to step up.

1. I totally agree.

2. SPLC was nuts to do this. Very, very poor judgment, especially given the amounts allegedly involved. If I were a donor, I’d be furious.

Apparently they have been doing this for a very long time and it has been known to the government for a long time. I don’t think the case is going to stick.

This SPLC is not your father's SPLC.

It played a huge role in getting rid of KKK, but that was a long time ago. This is far from the same group.

Oh yeah, right. I think the hate groups have no problem surviving with the SPLC.

I could 100% believe that the government made this all up.

I could also 100% believe the SPLC did these things.

I don't know enough about law to understand this: Are these the actual charges against SPLC?

If so, it reads as if it were written by some personal injury billboard attorney, not a T14-trained US Attorney!!

Also, where did the gubmint get all this info? Is it from the FBI's files on SPLC? it's mostly from 2008-2014. I'm guessing they wrote the indictment based on some old files relating to FBI informants that were paid by SPLC?

It appears that the gubmint is trying to destroy SPLC with this indictment, by revealing SPLC's informants and methods.

Is it illegal to pay people to infiltrate hate groups? And don't infiltrators have to behave like the hate-group members, ie post nasty racist things on social media, etc? And how is that illegal? And how is that fraud? And how is that misuse of donors' money? The SPLC is spending money to infiltrate these groups, just as the FBI and other law enforcement agencies PAY agents to infiltrate groups of people conspiring to do harm to other people in the US.

The ACLU, ACA, etc. all those groups are going to be targeted with lawsuits next. The Trump administration will do whatever it can to destroy the liberal groups trying to fight injustice and uphold civil rights. Trump wants to take us back to the Jim Crow era he grew up in.

So the cringy “alt right” was their synthetic creation and the weirdos walking around MAGA events with a brand new Nazi flag were paid plants to create a photo op and stoke viral outrage?

Are you all incapable of understanding the concept of a few informants in a giant group? So strange. Law enforcement has been familiar with this concept for years and yet you struggle.

NP. The indictment is pretty troubling and I say this as someone who has been an SPLC donor.

Literally not what’s alleged at all.

How does paying informants to help dismantle hate groups fund said hate groups? Did the informants give all the money to the organizations they were recruited to bring down? That seems like an important detail that would be highlighted throughout the indictment if it were true. But for some reason it’s not. Curious.
