Indictment of Southern Policy Law Center

Interesting that DOJ indicted SPLC (which has been around since the early 1970’s) for doing the work they should be doing but are too busy indicting Trumps political enemies. This should be interesting as it will be prosecuted in Alabama. Essentially Trump now wants to protect entities like the KKK, Proud Boys, Neo-Nazi’s, etc and screw over NGO’s trying to do the right thing.

The mistake they made was paying for their information.

Law enforcement does it all the time. I’m not sure there is a crime for hiring consultants or advisors to proactively gather information.

DOJ is saying that SPLC should’ve informed donors that they were paying informants within the hate orgs.

What’s the actual crime here? A violation of nonprofit tax rules?

I think DOJ is going to twist it and say the the SPLC recruited and paid people to be part of extremest organizations (but I’m not sure that’s even a crime unless the said extremests broke the law (ie. there’s no crime in merely being a member of the Proud Boys)

The SPLC had to keep the hate orgs around so they had something to fundraise against. It would be like a cancer foundation going around encouraging people to cook with teflon pans.

This must be a base-rallying move for the Right. They’re not fooling anyone outside that bubble.

The hate orgs were not entirely comprised of SPLC plants, genius.

Is the Complaint available? I read the article but to me, it sounds like the government is accusing SPLC of actually paying organizations to do/say hateful things.

Wake up, people.

This is part of the Administration’s plan to discredit and dissolve nonprofits.

They are distorting the facts for soundbites to shock people.

Anyone with half a brain realizes their tactics were aimed at infiltrating and disrupting hate groups…which they succeeding at. They obviously don’t—and weren’t—supporting hate groups.

This is so ridiculous. When will this madness end?

If they polled donors, they would undoubtedly support the tactics to disrupt hate groups. Duh.

DOJ should be ashamed.

Congress needs to step up.

That’s just because the DOJ under this Admin is truly stupid and obviously fueling hysteria based on boldface lies.
