They are not being subject to the increased endowment tax and not having graduate students, they don't take a lot of federal money for research.

This. The also have a really good president who is going to steer the ship well. I knew him slightly in college and he is just a really steady, thoughtful guy -- not a grandstander. Amherst also has such a tradition of really seeking out students from under-represented areas. I benefitted from that as a student from a small city in a state ranked firmly in the bottom half for educational outcomes. I'd love for my youngest to go there, but, given the schools various institutional priorities, it seems pretty unlikely.

Last year, the domestic acceptance rate was 12% per section C1 of the 2025-26 Common Data Set. International acceptance rate 1.4%. https://www.amherst.edu/system/files/C.%20First-Time%20First-Year%20Admission%202025-26_0.pdf

12% domestic, so that’s prob what, 5% acceptance for non athletes? Bc there are a ton of athletes

Please. There’s a ton of non athletes at Amherst. The boosting is so ridiculous here

The percentage of recruited athletes and Williams and Amherst is significant, at least 30%.

Gaming the system, applied and accepted years ago. Didn’t want to go to a school that was the size of a high school.

So basically their real acceptance rate is somewhere in the 10s-20%

They only admit 1-2% of internationals, domestically, is probably around 10%.
Williams admits even less.

Williams doesn’t break out international students in their CDS.

Not an Amherst parent but ..

International applicants are actual students and yes, they are real.

If you want to highlight the non international acceptance rate which is about 10%, it means that 10 of 100 applicants are accepted not 7 out of town.

What a groundbreaking piece of info.

I only know one kid who got in this year, a recruited athlete. Seems incredibly tough from this area.

You can find out from overall population, 8-10%, Amherst is 10-13%.

Pretty sure it's less than that factoring in recruited athletes. With institutional priorities (FGLI etc), it is exceedingly difficult to get in from affluent public schools these days. They are not looking for DMV grinders.

There are only around 10 kids going to Amherst from Virginia each year, they could admit 25 based on their yield rate,
