After that, destaffed personnel are placed at various schools. New applicants to the county (like someone who is moving from another district) can't be hired until after destaffed personnel are placed.

So a a person who has never taught before can get placed at school before a teacher with time in Fairfax?!? That seems so wrong for teachers who have experience and time in the county

It does happen. I know personally of situations where a job was taken by a so called "early hire" (a senior in college who had never taught) and the school did this because otherwise they would have been forced to take a destaffed person from another school (sometimes these people are great/sometimes not) and the school felt it was a risk.

It did happen but not this year. Destaffs will be placed by April 24. Any unfilled positions can then be filled by out of county people. You can interview but not offer a job unless you know there are no destaffs in that position. I have heard there are more destaffs than open positions in some areas in high school, so we are going to see many teachers filling part time positions at 2 or even 3 schools to make a full time position. I know we are splitting 2 teachers at my school.
