Um…no. The FLI lounge is a space for first gen low income people, not just black students.

Why is there even a special lounge for first generation low income students? Pomona has about 1700 students. Are there special lounges for everyone? How many lounges does this tiny school have? Are there signs above every couch? And someone left some trash in this special lounge and that is the scandal consuming the school? It must be exhausting going to Pomona. Every breathe is a potential micro-aggression.

Of course there are not "special" lounges for everyone. The regular common spaces all over are for everyone. This lounge is an affinity space for FG/LI who want to seek connection and hang with those they can related to, who carry regular backpacks, not Goyard totes.

Because nearly 1/3 of the student body’s first gen low income? Anyone can come, but they have lounges for First gen low income, black, Asian, Latino, indigenous, undocumented groups. It’s not a special lounge- it’s just a room that students decorated with a few couches and snacks. It’s only exhausting if you dislike people of color, poor people, etc etc.

I have never heard of a college spending so much energy on a lounge. Are the couches and armchairs exceptionally nice? What if, god-forbid, a mixed race student with divorced parents sits on one of these magical couches in the super special lounges? Collapse of civilization, right?

Sounds like they can already easily identify each other.

Williams spent millions on a three building complex dedicated to DEI: https://facilities.williams.edu/construction-projects/the-davis-center/" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> https://facilities.williams.edu/construction-projects/the-davis-center/. Other institutions have whole centers and large buildings dedicated to this. This is the tamest thing I’ve heard a college do.

Why so much racism in schools?

Pomona administrators communicated to the Independent and Pomona’s student government that the FLI lounge incident was a misunderstanding; students left trash behind in the room, which was interpreted by FLI leadership as a targeted incident.”

So FLI students using the lounge left trash behind and FLI leadership interpreted it as a racist attack?

It is hard. There is a weird sense that while antisemitism is a zero tolerance stance, racist harassment and treatment against black people is just tolerated and excused. If anything we blame black people for being too sensitive. No one would say that to a Jewish person

Someone leaving some trash in a student lounge isn't exactly slavery or the Holocaust. Someone had bad manners. It doesn't deserve all this drama. Sounds like an exhausting school.

You can only cry wolf so many times.

All these schools are, what, 99% democratic voting, administration and faculty are entirely liberal, and yet there is still the black student association complaining about microaggression and racism. How many times have we heard this? Many, many times. It's an self-validation grievance industry these days.

Then they can’t cry racism at all because everyone was included equally in the perceived slight

Is this a joke? That's exactly what is said, all the time.

Not sure but supposedly the cis-gendered straight, white affinity lounge also encountered some hostility, so it isn't confined to other affinity lounges.

So FLI students using the lounge left trash behind and FLI leadership interpreted it as a racist attack?

Members of an athletic team trashed the lounge and FLI interpreted it as a bias incident against the fli group.
