Need a go to outfit for summer

Gauze pants or maxi skirt, a high-neck tank top, cardigan if needed, and Birkenstock Gizehs.

I don’t think old navy is selling those this year sadly. My teen has one she bought last year and it was great for touring Europe in hot summer days with a tank top and then a wrap in our bag for churches or air conditioning. Quince has something similar that I’ve been eyeing.
My go to for the same hot European vacation was a pact sundress and then a gauze short sleeved shirt from Costco that I could throw on over it like a light jacket. I think Costco does have some of the gauze back in stock this summer, and lands end and LL bean also seem to have some.

Lightweight layer, usually a lightweight shirt worn open. I have several in linen, but you can also do a cotton like this:

If a shirt isn't right, I also have a bunch of cotton cardigans like this:

For shoes I either do a simple sneaker (go to are Reebok Club Cs), a flat sandal (Birkenstock Mayari), or a plain slide in brown or black.

I wear the same standard jewelry most days -- wedding/engagement rings, gold studs or huggie hoops, a modern bronze bangle I've had forever.

I also almost always wear a heat for sun protection, either classic straw fedora or a baseball cap.

Great look. I love the skirt!

Meant to write NOT as hard to maintain as linen!!!!

My problem every summer is I buy cute summer clothes with the intention of looking nice but really I just want to be outdoors and active so I spend most of the summer in athletic clothing so I can always pop out for a walk, or a hike, or just be outside doing whatever. Feels like I waste a lot of summer clothing opportunities but changing from a cute outfit to the sporty stuff to go be active would be a deterrent to me so I just live in the activewear

This is me every day, year-round. So many cute outfits in my closet, waiting to be worn...

omg this is me too. I can’t take a brisk walk in a skirt or linen pants so yeah it’s active wear all year. And I always have the best intentions when I summer rolls around to be better about this.

I'm in my 40's and WFH. I wear whatever nightgown I wore to bed the night before. To go out I wear 7/8 leggings and a t-shirt with sneakers.

I wear "cute outfits" practically every day, even while walking my large rambunctious dog. True, I don't hike or jog, but long walks are fine (and the dog makes me run on some stretches). Cute doesn't have to mean restrictive or uncomfortable. I wear light summer sneakers. I don't like most athletic clothes, because they're polyester and utilitarian, whereas I like cotton, ruffles, flowers, girly stuff like that. Yesterday I wore a dress with ruffles and a straw hat to walk my dog. My gym uniform is a cotton yoga set I found on Fair Indigo. It doesn't stick to me like the usual plastic leggings, which is great.

Yes that sounds like it works for you. A lot of what you describe would be uncomfortable for the activities I do so although I see your point it turns out it just doesn’t work out for me. I think I’m especially particular about feeling restricted though. I’m the kind of person who can’t even wear shirts with sleeves or sweatshirts or full leggings to the gym because I end up feeling suffocated.
