You again. Stop. This is not an average person DIY.

I think I’m pretty average, and I can also fix my brakes. But I grew up really poor, so we had to work on our own cars.

Won’t ever affect me. I’d never own a POS car like that that I couldn’t do simple basic maintenance on.

It’s like a tax for being a dumbass. If you buy a car like that, you deserve to have to pay the tax.

All new cars will be lile this in the next few years unless the fed puts a stop to it

It will affect you buddy if you ever buy a new car. All new cars have an electronic parking brake. So it is more difficult to change rear pads. You may be able to do it without a dealer tool but it is going to be more involved than with the mechanical parking brake. In my case I ended up just taking it to the dealer. I still change the front brakes myself.

I have exactly ZERO interest in owning any more new cars….buddy. In fact, these days I find a lot more appeal in survivor/resto cars that are as old or older than me.

You can have all that new sh!t.

But I think it’s absolutely F’ n hilarious that a web forum populated by posters who literally think they are the best and brightest, smartest people in the room, who all went to Ivies and have multiple advanced degrees and “middle class” incomes of $500k+ - those same people think changing the pads and rotors on a car is some kind of God-tier DIY.

Gawd you fools are insufferable.

dp. My brother in law has tools and confidence. He and dh work together to do brake jobs. Real man business, I say.

Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

You can buy the scanner for 100 bucks. BFD. Buy it and be done.

Also, very few cars have electronic parking brakes that automatically engage when you put the car in park or turn it off. While almost all cars have done away with the mechanical linkage in favor of brake-by-wire, they need to be engaged by the driver.

If my brother was fixing my wife's brakes for free I would need a paternity test for my kids.

I came across this person on Tiktok. Haven't used his services so no idea on cost or quality. Autorick Mobile Mechanic; 571-584-7525). Looks like def. does brakes. If you end up reaching out, appreciate it if you could share costs and other feedback on this thread so others can benefit.
