This is not a thing.

Yes it is. How would you feel about getting a surgical procedure from someone who looked like they were right out of med school vs someone who looked they had been a surgeon for years? Ditto for lawyers, real estate agents, pilots, and some many other professions. Perception vs reality.

Most people would feel great about getting plastic surgery from someone who looked young. By the way, who is hiring people for services without checking their skills?

Right, and OP says she’s middle aged, so I’m not buying it.

Y'all are so touchy. Some people are baby faced and look young their whole lives. My mom is in her 70s and people always think she's in her 50s. She is overweight and has gray hair and wrinkles. But she has a baby face and it just doesn't compute for people.

This is not about hotness or dating, no one is suggesting that men all think they are 30 when they are 45. But yes, some people have baby faces and even in your 40s, people will react dismissively to you in a workplace simply because they associate your facial features with youth and inexperience.

People on this website are so weird about age and beauty.

I need to see some photos of examples of middle aged people with baby faces.

My best friend (40) is high up in a male dominated field and has always looked way younger than she is. She regularly gets asked if she’s her two kids’ big sister. She started wearing her hair shorter, and frequently doing a little chignon thing rather than leaving it down. She also wears glasses and lots of pants suits to professional events, and always a smal heel.

Does anyone know anyone who has dyed their hair gray? Was this popular in the 18th century - think powdered wigs?

Glasses, updo, less make up. No need to look older, just elegant and professional.

It's not because you look young. It's because you are bad at your job.

Wear glasses and the color burgundy, with dark lipstick and no blush.

Eat sweets, be a couch potato, let the fat grow all over you. The more sugar you eat, the more wrinkles you’ll get.

NP. When I was 44, a member of the board of directors at my organization apologized to me. She told them I was too inexperienced for my job. She made this statement based on my appearance. She told me she thought I was at the max, 30. I told her I was 44 to her face. Yes, this happens.

I also had a direct report make a snarky comment the first day we met that “oh, we look about the same age.” She was 29. I was 46. She had wanted the job. I told her about my experience and that I was about 17 years older than her.
