What books are 9-11 year olds reading?

I think it totally varies on their maturity level and interests but, for the younger end, I'd say the I Survived series is really big, or obviously Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Older end I'd say Maze Runner, Hunger Games, Percy Jackson. I have boys, not sure about girl centric books.

Agree with this, also all of the graphic novels in the library. Seriously, my 11 year old boy has even read the Babysitters Club graphic novels but I'm not supposed to tell anyone that.

That’s weird

oh stop. Graphic novels are huge right now. My 4th grade kid is an incredibly advanced reader and reads things like George Orwell and HG Wells for fun, but he is also obsessed with the I Survived graphic novels, Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales, Dogman, and basically any graphic novel out there. If someone handed him a BSC graphic novel he'd read it. It's a fad.

What’s weird? Reading?

My 10 year old read every graphic novel under the sun before she turned to Kate Decamilo books. She’s read most of them. She’s now really into “The name of this book is secret” series. Devouring one book after another. But I am SO thankful for graphic novels for instilling the love for reading!

He's also reading James Ponti (City Spies and Sherlock Society)
There's also 32 Clues and Mysterious Benedict Society

Do you mean that he was always a reluctant reading and just likes Rick Riordan, or he's become so obsessed with Riordan books that he won't read other things anymore?

Not a reluctant reader at all- he’s 9, read all the riordan books (most several times) and just hasn’t found anything else he likes as well. He still reads a lot, but the interest and excitement isn’t the same.

Maybe time to figure out what genre he likes. My son read Alan Gratz books after the usual suspects… started with refuge and took off from there

Mystery is also good. Maybe go to an independent bookstore and hang out a while, sampling books… keep trying - it will stick.. I remember being frustrated around middle school when something similar happened and then he discovered a series he absolutely loved and now hes back to reading all the time as a high schooler

Think the interest ebbs and flows but as long as you try it’ll work

My son also reads babysitter's club.

Percy Jackson Series (there is also a 2nd series) and a few other stand alone ones
Max Einstein Series
National Archives Hunters (1 and 2)
Ramona Books (1-3)
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Fudge Books
Spy School Series
The Academy Series
I read Chronicles of Narnia to the kids and he has read 2/3 others

Cookie Chronicles series is great if your kid likes a series aimed at smart kids with a sense of humor.

9 year old:
Percy Jackson
Harry Potter
The Terrible Two
Ramona books
Fudge Hatcher books

The problem now is that 9 yo finds everything hilarious, loves pulling pranks, turns every stick into a wand or weapon, and says he thinks he has ADHD and dyslexia.
