I think you are fine to take the coupon- regardless of attachment, and use it at another time. Isn’t that the point of the coupon?

It's fine, go ahead and take the coupon and use it later.

Why would you need to take it? Every item already has a coupon attached.

If you're peeling the coupon off of the product and not buying the product, that's weird. Why aren't you just buying the product right now? The laundry detergent isn't going to expire.

Taking a coupon book from the store and using the coupon later is a whole different story.

If this makes someone an awful human to you, I worry about your perceptions.

NP. How about a low morals person? If a coupon is attached to an item, it is for that item. The reason it isn't okay to just take it is because many times the person who takes it will not get it in the window, or forget it, and then the person who actually wants to buy that now-coupon less item might not buy it because of that.

Attached coupons are used to incentivize immediate purchases. Not maybes for later.

A lot of these gray area questions are more of a question of - “do I feel guilty about this?” rather than “is it against the rules/illegal?”

It’s illegal to jaywalk. I don’t feel guilty about it, so I do it all the time. Not returning grocery cart is not illegal, but I feel guilty about it, so I always return it.

As for taking the coupon, would you do it surreptitiously or would you not care if other shoppers saw you? I know people who would take a dozen coupons in front of the store manager’s face. And I know people who would wait until the aisle was empty. And personally, it has never crossed my mind to take one without purchasing the item.

The coupon is a promotional offer to entice the shopper to buy the item today, so taking the coupon for the future doesn’t achieve that aim. But I don’t think it’s a big deal. I would probably be annoyed if I wanted to buy the item today and all the coupons were gone though hi.

This coupon is meant for the person who buys the product. I'm sure the company knows there are people like you out there. No, they are not going to prosecute you but what the heck!
There are many ways to save money without having to do questionable things. Try it.
By the way, I have tried to do the right thing my whole life just because. I cannot even tell you how it all has come back to me and keeps coming.
You sound a little bit too cheap. Don't do it if you are into saving money like I am.
If a product has a coupon, it is most likely has decent margin in the price. Buy a cheaper product from Lidl. You may love it, use it til you are 80, and save $1000 over lifetime on that product alone.
