CMU or GTech

Go CMU if you can afford it. Smaller, research focused university with a feeder route to top notch employers. GaTech is good but much larger and more likely to have trouble getting into classes that you want because of overcrowding.

CMU.

Many engineers in our family, industry and professors. They wrote a tier list for us to maximize chances for all E-related careers. CMU.

Georgia Tech will give you a more traditional college experience on top of it being a Top Engineering School. Go GT.

What field within Engineering?

Nice Flex
Georgia Tech is #3 for Engineering and CMU is #8. Can't go wrong either way. I prefer GT as I prefer the Southeast. Congrats.

Not everybody wants a "traditional college experience," whatever that means. CMU is objectively better for engineering and has better employment outcomes due to prestige and a smaller class size. Pittsburgh is also a nicer place to attend college than Atlanta, IMO. A bit sleepier but cozier -- definitely an underrated city. If you want to party, just go over to Pitt.

CMU if your student likes a small cohort abd a more close knit community. Gtech if your student enjoys a big school feel.

Mine two went to CMU for CS and IS. Loved it. But they both came up the private school route so the smaller school setting worked better for them.

A friend’s son is at Gtech for industrial engineering and loves it. He wanted a big school and better weather.

Can’t go wrong with either. Do visit before you decide. CMU’s carnival week is coming up (first weekend in April). You will get a good feel of the campus, the student body and enjoy the buggy race.

I asked AI for you. You're welcome.

"Student Life: Georgia Tech is frequently described as having a better, more balanced social environment, whereas CMU can be more demanding and stressful, leading to a more intense, sometimes isolating, workload."

CMU has a reputation of a grind school

Georgia Tech is just objectively better for Engineering hence it's #3 ranking and is constantly a Top Feeder to top engineering firms Kid can't go wrong either, IMHO. If kid is more social may like the vibe at GT better.

If CS I may pick CMU but both are great at that. For Engineering, for sure GT.

Is that an issue at GT or just assuming because they have 20k undergrads. BTW, GT is also on the preferred list of many "top notch" employers.
