Shooting at Old Dominion

Vote BLUE all the way. My kid is leaving the US for college elsewhere because of fear of being shot and now, la k if truly free speech.

Statistically he has a higher chance of being killed by a bee, wasp, or hornet than by a random mass shooter.

“ I've gotten 2 different confirmations that the gunman opened the classroom door and asked what class this was. Professor (Army officer) said "ROTC", and gunman started to shoot. Gunman was then swarmed by Cadets. Heard some rumors of motives and gunmen description, but I'll hold off on sharing that info till confirmed.”

Withholding judgement on the actual circumstances in this instance, we've had several discussions with our own JROTC cadets, who have two very real and recently retired USMC instructors. That's not the classroom I'd think was in much danger. Their version of lock-and-teach is waaay different than other classrooms. It'd be stupid or suicidal on the perpetrator's part.

I could understand this statement if it was Newport News but Norfolk? Come on.

This could happen at Christopher Newport and would have nothing to do with it being in Newport News. Gun violence can happen anywhere, any day. And it is increasingly happening on college campuses, even in seemingly “safe” towns.

PP is referring to the statement that someone doesn't want their kid living in Norfolk. Newport News is also called Newport Nam for a reason.

Yeah, I know what they’re referring to. If you don’t want your kid living in Norfolk or Newport News because of street crime, fine. But that has nothing to do with this thread.

yep, even colleges now have shooter drills.

Welcome to America! Making America Great Again! /s

Oh shut up geed. If your first instinct when tragedy strikes is to make it political, you're not the good guy.

Tell you your plan for helping end this useless epidemic. I’ll wait.

1. Bring back mental institutions.
2. Keep violent criminals locked up.

With what funds? Federal and state politicians aren't interested in spending on (1.) at all.

He's too hungover from partying with gay hockey players to do that. But he DID manage to gut the FBI counterintelligence tasked with monitoring Iranian threats: https://www.cnn.com/2026/03/03/politics/patel-fbi-national-security-division-firings-iran

This is the 22-year-old in charge of preventing terrorism at home: https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-dhs-thomas-fugate-cp3-terrorism-prevention

Feel safer?

(This regime actively wants a large-scale terror attack so it has some reason to declare a national emergency and cancel the midterms).

Right? This administration is not serious about counterterrorism and national security. They've pushed the professionals out and gutted our defenses. Clowns are in charge. And yes, they'd love an attack so they can justify an authoritarian crackdown. Timothy Snyder has been writing about it -- they want a Reichstag Fire.

They put a 22 year old with no experience in a crucial anti terrorism role.
