FCPS Student Summit

Principal at our school shared details with students in SGA—or maybe the kids on the principal’s advisory council.

Pretty sure the intent was not to encourage students to apply to Skyview.

Staff are working diligently to get the building ready for next year, and this day will be no different. The people tasked with putting this together are different from those opening up Skyview.

It’s nice to know FCPS staff are diligent about something. They certainly aren’t diligent about reaching an accord with county officials to get the renovation of Centreville started or getting the outdated school renovation queue updated.

Anyone else's kid going to this?

Mine is excited about it (very much a fomo kid), but I am honestly trying to lower expectations between now and then.

I think there were some who had formerly gone to Oakton who were disappointed, but got over it quickly. But, then they took some who had been sent from Oakton to Westfield and sent them to South Lakes a few years later. That seemed a little unfair.

However, when Westfield opened, there was a very positive vibe about it.

The principal and a very strong staff played a big part in it.

There was also limited internet/social media when Westfield was opened, so it was harder for parents to organize and get each other riled up. I think Rooted in Oakton is only a thing because a certain someone abused their position on the PTO to send out blast emails to the parent community.

Whine, whine, whine.

My freshman just had me sign a permission form for this. We are nowhere near Skyview - it’s not a recruitment event. I think all students were invited to apply, and it sounded interesting/like a chance to miss some school.

As long as you’re getting yours, right? You could not be more obnoxious.

RIO is a thing because FCPS hasn’t done a good job of convincing people Skyview will offer comparable opportunities to Oakton. Period.

Could the people complaining about things other than the actual event please take it to another thread? You're off topic.
