yes. You have until May 1 to back out. You will lose the deposit, but nothing further. After that, you'll be on the hook for the full tuition.

However, read the contract carefully. This is typical but not universal. Especially if you are not in the DC area.

Alternatively, are offers reneged if one hasn’t placed a deposit?

Thanks!

?? The offer isn't reneged. If you don’t send deposit you are declining.

Right, it's the same as a "no" but without the respect of saying no.

It doesn’t hurt to ask, but I think it’s unlikely that a school would extend the deadline. They want to figure out their yield as soon as possible and move to the waitlist if necessary. Plus, some parents are willing to put a deposit and lose it if necessary. If you have a really good reason and are asking for a short extension, they probably would be more willing.

You do risk losing your spot if you do not place a deposit and have not communicated with admissions about needing an extension.

No, you are declining your spot if you do this. Don't count on having the option to enroll the following week.

Yes - you can always ask for extenuating circumstances, but keep in mind that your spot is taking up the spot of someone trying to get in. They usually don't hold it for long.

Won't happen.Pay the deposit at the last moment if you are hoping to get off a waitlist elsewhere.

No. You can ask but if it's a desirable school, it's very unlikely. I think if you give it any thought from the school's perspective, there is really no upside to giving you more time.
