In a very quirky hotel there was an unsafe step-down in the room. A real fall risk at night. We left a brighter light on, than I would have liked, when we slept.

Why not sleep in the dark and just use your phone as a flashlight when you get up to pee?

They didn't provide an itinerary....

That being said, I simply bring my day-to-day clothing but selected to work nearly indefinitely in a capsule wardrobe. I can be dressed appropriately for the town, country or city. I pack carry on only, 2-3 pairs of shoes max, and if I need something I buy it while I travel.

My latest and favourite travel item is my pair of Bang & Olufsen Beoplay headphones. LOVE.

OP didn't say anything about "see everything in 2 weeks", just said multiple. Could be 2 stops total over 10 days.

Op here! We are staying in two major capital cities and doing some day trips to the smaller towns nearby. So not doing a bunch of countries in a week, just two countries with extra stops. We are excited and I’m grateful for all the suggestions!

I’m excited for you and your family. I travel regularly for work and fun, and think these people talking about your itinerary are off base.

I think the real question is how are you getting from the airport to your hotels. If you have easy transportation (rental car or car transfer) I check luggage.

Yes, you can use a carry-on, but why limit yourself to drab outfits on your fabulous vacation. I’ve done it both ways, I’ve even lost my checked luggage, but now always let my family use bigger suitcases and enjoy the fun of packing for the trip. We get better photos and you just feel better in your clothes. Who wants to wear clothes multiple times after trudging through towns and museums.

I agree with others, pack limited shoes and layers. Bring black pants and a pair of jeans, but I also bring casual dresses and a sweater.

Love Spanx air essential or Varley matching sets for plane rides.

Enjoy! Do a food tour. Take lots of pictures.

I think your trip sounds too exhausting. I would stick to one large city as my base (rent an airbnb/apt) and do short treks out to other smaller towns/cities.

Rick Steve’s has good recommendations about what to pack.

I don’t sleep on planes so I stopped lugging a dumb pillow around the airport and beyond. I tried them all - it did not matter.

This. I have a very lightweight wool pashmina that I carry with me everywhere whenever i travel. Helps when it gets cold and I use it as pillow / neck support on planes.

Yes pashmina
No compression sox- just book an aisle seat and get up whenever you need to.
Yes layers
Check the weather the night before you pack- you may not need sandals

You will probably arrive morning or mid-day and need to get moving so keep this in mind when selecting your airplane wardrobe

I always wear my biggest shoes that I'm bringing to save space in my suitcase, take them off on the plane and put on some daggy sox or light slippers. I always pack extra undies and tee shirt/first layer in case i get stuck somewhere but in 1/2 dozen tourist trips in as many years I have not needed it!

I didn't know i needed a $1,000+ carry on until I looked at this: Rimowa cabin carryon! Ha!
