I haven’t been out of the country in years.
Flying to Europe for spring break and doing multiple countries/cities. I would love links or suggestions for your most favorite walking shoes, comfortable but practical travel clothes, crossbody bags, that sort of thing. Anyone have one of those sweatshirts with the built in eye mask I’m seeing all over instagram? Very grateful for all your suggestions ! |
| Also, do you recommend compression socks? It’s not a very long overnight flight. But the last time I took a long overnight flight I was in my 20s (now in my 40s!) |

Brooks Glycerin Max or NB FreshFoam running shoes, always in a neutral color, not flashy, for daily wear.
Compression socks help on long flights. Pack layers of clothes. On warm days wear fewer layers. On cold days wear more. Outermost layer should be a waterproof shell, likely GoreTex, with several zippered pockets to carry maps, tissues, snacks, or whatever else. |

I travel often and really don't do travel clothes. Just wear comfortable clothes for the flights and normal clothes in the cities. In spring it will be cool in northern Europe.
I still like OnClouds for walking but they are now a giveaway that you are an American tourist (even though they are Swiss). I wore new Bombas compression socks on a transatlantic flight last month and had to take them off because they actually hurt and I couldn't sleep. So try them out before your trip so you don't waste packing space on something you can't use. I like the HoodiePillow for overnight flights if I am not in business class. |

Thank you both ! This is so helpful.

I’m like PP and also don’t do travel clothes. I like Baggalini for crossbody travel bags. I have a smaller one and a bigger one depending on the situation.
I don’t sleep on planes so I stopped lugging a dumb pillow around the airport and beyond. I tried them all - it did not matter. |
| I swear by a an eye mask that blocks out light and earplugs on the plane. First time w/an eye mask was because of a hotel room. In a very quirky hotel there was an unsafe step-down in the room. A real fall risk at night. We left a brighter light on, than I would have liked, when we slept. |

I would reconsider doing one of these "see everything in 2 weeks" trips. Everything will look the same 5 days in and people often get sick from all the travel. Far better to pick one or two cities to visit over the course of 2 weeks.
That being said, I simply bring my day-to-day clothing but selected to work nearly indefinitely in a capsule wardrobe. I can be dressed appropriately for the town, country or city. I pack carry on only, 2-3 pairs of shoes max, and if I need something I buy it while I travel. My latest and favourite travel item is my pair of Bang & Olufsen Beoplay headphones. LOVE. |

Favorites:
On Cloud waterproof slip on sneakers. So ugly but ended up almost all I wore. Bombas compressioj socks (I do have thin legs) Lululemon vest over either theory merino wool sweaters or Lululemon long sleeve athletic tops Packable down jacket or puffy coat. |

I only pack in a carry on and personal item.
I wear comfortable clothes on my flight there and back so that I can sleep if possible. These also serve as lounging clothes throughout the trip. I also put a large scarf in my personal item that I use as a blanket when I’m on the plane and as an extra layer if I need it on the trip. I wear my largest shoes on the plane (to save room in my luggage) which are my brooks running shoes. I always pack a rain jacket and umbrella. I also pack a thin warm vest (mine is from uniqlo but these are sold everywhere) as another layer. Between sweaters, vest and rain jacket, I likely would not pack any other jacket for a spring trip to Europe (depending where specifically, of course). I pack all mix and match- usually 2 pairs blue jeans, 1 black jeans, 1 black pants (or a dress). Tshirts, sweaters and tops that go with any. pair of black flats and waterproof black chelsea boots. maybe a silk scarf to jazz up my admittedly simple clothing looks. I use the lululemon nylon crossbody as my travel purse (I tuck it into my personal item on the plane). It’s great because it is lightweight, washes well, and zippers closed and is worn as a crossbody so fairly pickpocket secure. I decant my toiletries into travel size bottles (I bought a pack on amazon several yrs ago). remember to pack all of your medicines (and make sure they are legal to bring into each country) and an electrical outlet converter. Save room in your suitcase for souveniers
Have fun! |
Sneakers are commonplace in Europe. Everyone wears them. Europeans are also tourists in Europe who want comfortable shoes. Advice to OP is to get comfortable sneakers and not worry if people thinks she is American. |
OP didn't say anything about "see everything in 2 weeks", just said multiple. Could be 2 stops total over 10 days. |
OP never said anything about "being worried if people think she is American". Weird the things people put on others. |
| Rimowa cabin carryon. |
| Also I think you will regret that itinerary. |
