They do not pay for OG certification, so it’s unlikely a building will have a certified interventionist, but there are some people who pursue that on their own. ASDEC and IMSE both have tutors listed on their websites that are certified.

Why does mcps choose not to pay for OG certification? So reading specialist at the school is not OG trained or certified? If not, what does reading specialist do or specialize in? I hear many kids in MCPS fail reading or language testing, and I do not understand why not train specialist teachers.

Most reading specialists are OG trained and please explain what you mean about failing language testing. MCPS has come a long way with dyslexia and even their tier 1 is better. Supplementing with a tutor is recommended if you have an SLD IEP or are getting one but many intervention and sped teachers are giving students the OG they need. If they aren’t, please ask for a meeting with the team asap!
