No one in Arlington does who would they play?

Each other? That's how the middle schools do it.

There is no middle school baseball.

Do you not understand the field space issue in Arlington?

It's a shame APS and the county don't coordinate better. There are tons of fields for rec soccer. It's crazy to think they couldn't work in capacity for 3 HSfreshman teams.

Who is paying for this? Are you going to coach?

Of course I understand the shortage of field space, but I'd still prioritize using field space for 3 HS freshman teams over renting the field space to travel soccer teams or asking very young rec teams to share.

Then you don't understand budgets.

There's no money for freshman coaches and moreover APS has fewer VHSL sports than Fairfax and Alexandria due to the fact there's no money in the budget. Also, no other jurisdiction in the area has freshman soccer.

Exactly. There is no field space and no money in the budget. For field space, DD plays a different spring sport at WL and there is literally no time in the schedule to fit in practice for an additional team. There are four different teams sharing the stadium field and those practice times are 3:30-5; 5-6:30; 6:30-8; and 8-9:30. When my DD has the late practice, she gets home at 10 at the earliest. Scrimmages start today (3/4) and now some of those practices will move to the auxiliary grass field, which is bumpy and definitely less than ideal. Arlington just does not have the space to accomodate additional teams - they are already sharing the fields with so many other entities.

Beyond that, APS doesn't have the budget - they just announced they don't have the money to fund boys volleyball or girls flag football. I don't see freshman soccer getting funded and not those other two sports.

Good for you in Nebraska where there's hardly anything other than fields. We live in Arlington.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed! Yikes! God forbid someone give an example of what people do somewhere else. Field space is clearly part of the problem, but, as someone mentioned, there a million rec soccer teams here and non-school fields. If the teams practice right after school lets out on another County field, they could find the space. It’s just a different way of operating, and I’m just pointing out that other places successfully make it work.

How many tried out?

It’s definitely sad that there aren’t freshman teams for boys and girls soccer. We are in ACPS. So many kids cut. Baseball too. Yet we have freshman field hockey.
